New LAS-CO2 System – Carbon Dioxide Based,
Industrial Laser Marking System
LNA Laser is pleased to announce our latest laser marking and engraving system, The LAS-CO2. CO2 lasers are the laser of choice for marking organic materials such as, wood, leather, cardboard and other packaging materials, coated metals, glass and many plastics. The LAS-CO2 is an industrially designed system in an all-in-one aluminum and steel package. It includes a 30 Watt air-cooled sealed laser source, integrated control hardware, power supplies, beam delivery optics, red aiming beam and high speed, high precision galvo scanning head.

The LNA marking software is intuitive with a powerful variety of features. You can import a wide range of image files-vector or raster. It has its own text editor and the ability to generate one-D or two-D barcodes with serialization. The system can be manually operated or integrated into factory controls through, serial, digital I/O or PLC.

The LAS-CO2 is incredibly fast, marking over 100,000 decorative marks per hour in the packaging industry.

For those about to Rock... AC/DC – The feud
between Tesla and Edison
January 27th marks the 136th anniversary of Thomas Edison’s patent being granted for the “electric lamp for giving light by incandescence.” Although the light bulb had been invented 50 years prior, Edison made the first commercially viable bulb by using a carbon filament and improved vacuum. Due to high demand for electric lighting, Edison built the first power plant in Manhattan which served 500 homes. Generating DC voltage, the distance from the plant was limited to less than 1 mile.

Enter Nicola Tesla
Born in Serbia, Tesla had a formal education in mathematics. He was able to perform integral calculus in his head graduating 1 year early. Tesla moved to New York to work for Edison. They had a lot in common, both were egotists that hated egotists and workaholics, needing less than 4 hours sleep. They however had more differences, Tesla was a germaphobe and had a “violent aversion against the earrings of women.” Edison was a bit slovenly. Tesla once said about Edison, “...he lived in utter disregard of the most elementary rules of hygiene."

Edison relied heavily on experimentation and trial and error whereas Tesla had the ability to visualize and work out concepts in his mind before building a prototype. Tesla proposed an AC motor and generator but Edison favored his own DC power and called Tesla’s idea “Impractical”.

He lobbied Edison for months that he could improve the efficiency of Edison’s DC plant. Edison, skeptical told him that he would give him $50,000 if successful. Tesla worked for several months and achieved the efficiencies he promised and when he asked for the bonus, Edison claimed he wasn’t serious, “When you become a full-fledged American, you will appreciate an American joke.” And instead offered a $10/week raise.

Tesla immediately quit and did odd jobs such as digging ditches until he met George Westinghouse who gave him $1 million for many of his patents. Westinghouse also had a bitter feud with Edison. Westinghouse’ AC generators were used in the first electric chairs. Edison tried to popularize the term being “Westinghoused” instead of electrocuted.

Edison earned 1,093 US patents, a record for one person which stands to this day. Nevertheless, Tesla won the “War of Currents” with AC power used throughout the world.
Celebrating 15 Years!
LNA laser was established in 2001 and we are celebrating our 15th year of supporting our customers and the laser community. We were one of the pioneers to introduce end pumped fiber coupled diode laser technology for industrial laser marking and material processing. As laser technology has evolved, so have we offering the latest in fiber laser technology, sealed tube CO2 lasers and automation as an authorized Fanuc integrator. We look forward to the next 15 years of providing our customers with the best quality, know-how and support.

Section 179 Tax Deduction
Deduct 100% of your equipment purchase in 2016
Section 179 of the IRS tax code allows companies to deduct the full purchase price of equipment purchased or financed (up to $500,000) during the tax year in 2016. This was created by the U.S. government to encourage businesses to buy equipment and invest in their future growth. Section 179 is one of the best incentives included in recent Stimulus Bills that actually benefits small businesses. LNA Laser’s products qualify for a 100% tax deduction if purchased in 2016.
