BUSINESS LEADERS COMPLETE COHORT
The Business Leadership Academy of Tacoma-Pierce County provides an opportunity for current and emerging leaders to connect with others in the business community and develop additional leadership skills.

Over the course of several sessions and a retreat, employees from Columbia Bank, Tacoma Public Schools, Targa Sound Terminals and more studied leadership applications, visited organizations, and learned from leaders who make an impact on our community. Join us in congratulating leaders from the Class of 2018 .
LOCAL ORGANIZATIONS LEAD BY EXAMPLE

Find out who will be recognized as the 2018 Tahoma Business Environmental Award designee for their work in implementing work practices illustrating environmental stewardship, such as waste reduction, recycling programs, or energy conservation. Nominees include Forever Green Trails , Travel Tacoma , and the University of Puget Sound .

PIERCE TRANSIT CONSIDERING RAPID TRANSIT
As the population of the county continues to rise, Pierce Transit is looking to expand transportation options in an effort to decrease congestion and make rides more comfortable and reliable.

With fewer stops and more frequent trips, rapid transit along the 14 mile Pacific Avenue corridor could greatly increase transportation options for downtown commuters without the heavy price tag of light rail.

LAST CHANCE TO APPLY
The Business Improvement Area (BIA) provides maintenance, security, and streetscape improvements in an 125-block district of downtown Tacoma. The BIA is currently accepting applications for a Service Technician.
LUXURY APARTMENTS COMING TO 6TH AVENUE
A mixed-use building will occupy the space where Trapper's Sushi now sits empty.

Demolition could begin as early as this summer to make way for 6th & alder which will include underground parking, ground level retail, and five stories of residential space.

REGIONAL LEADERS TO DISCUSS KEY ISSUES IN PIERCE COUNTY
Convene and connect with regional leaders as they discuss the outlook for Pierce County in key areas including industry, public safety, the military, and economic development.

Program includes an address by Executive  Bruce Dammeier , as well as a panel including Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor , JBLM Garrison Commander Colonel Nicole Lucas , Bruce Kendall, Pres & CEO of the Economic Development Board for Tacoma-Pierce County, and Port of Tacoma Commissioner Don Meyer

Tacoma Community College Board of Trustees has announced Ivan Harrell as the 11th President. MORE INFO HERE

The Bates Technical College Board of Trustees voted to offer Interim President Dr. Lin Zhou the position of President at their board meeting. MORE INFO HERE
LNG: A STEP IN THE RIGHT DIRECTION?
Amid continued objection from local environmental groups and the Puyallup Tribe, Puget Sound Energy's LNG plans continue to progress.

LNG, which is touted as a cleaner alternative to bunker fuel, will be largely used for ships transporting cargo to Alaska. Representatives from local longshore unions feel anything to improve air quality for front-line workers breathing in ship exhaust, is something worth supporting.
