HELLO EVERYONE

Sorry that I have been quiet lately. Since returning from Bavaria I had a week of getting things sorted back at Moor Hall, ready for a weeks pop-up shop in Presteigne, Powys as a fundraising event as well as fitting in some much needed time, getting away for a long weekend. We were caravaning at Shrewsbury Folk Festival, where our dance teams were performing. It was great chilling out with friends, doing a bit of dancing and listening to some great music.

But now I need to get my head around a new programme of courses for Moor Hall, answer all those emails and try and get ahead of myself with some of my own work.

With the latter in mind I have just spent two fabulous days with a special friend Mandy Clayton, both of us working in the studio on our own themes, listening to radio 4 with a little bit of Chopin thrown in. So here is Mandy busy working from a still-life that she had set up.

.....and here are some working drawings that I shall be developing for new work using barkcloth.

This piece is a print onto barkcloth but is still very much work in progress.

Mandy is currently working on building a new website, but here it is so that you can take a peep.

.....and some great news.

Dates are now down on the calendar for Mandy to come to Moor Hall to teach a course consisting of 5 weekends in 2016. The course will be exploring the relationship between paperwork and cloth, with composition and stitch being considered at every stage. Now I know this seems a long way off, but as we all know it comes around rather too quickly these days!!!! Let me know if you feel such a course will be of interest to you.

LETS MOVE ON NOW TO SOME CATCH UP NEWS AND IMAGES FROM BAVARIA

Schwaebische Kunstsommer

Suebian Summer School of the Fine Arts, Bavaria, Germany

2nd - 10th August 2014

I promised you more images from Bavaria and to kick off here are the lovely students that were on my course. Although it seems an age ago now, sorting through these images brought back very fond memories.

The work progressed fairly rapidly through a series of exercises to set the scene

Students were introduced to different methods of 'drawing' using a variety of media and tools.
Compositions soon emerged building on the techniques and students soon had their display boards full of ideas for personal development.

Printing techniques including monoprinting and block printing had students soon working onto fabric.

An exhibition of framed and mounted work took place on the final day. Here is a selection of work from my students

The light was reflecting onto much of the work, but with interesting effects.

PRESENTATIONS

Each of the master tutors had to give a lecture beside their exhibited works. Here are images of the visual artists giving their presentations.

LEISURE TIME!!!

We did have some time out and below we had an evening with the sponsors eating wonderful canopies in the courtyard and below students and tutors had a little evening get together in the working studio of Heribert Ottersbach.

The extraordinary thing about this whole event was the coming together of all the different artforms. Experiencing the performing arts of music, dance, poetry and writing alongside the visual arts was amazing and the collaborative projects that took place were very extremely powerful and moving. It was really interesting listening to the presentations of the performing artist tutors and recognising how we use the same language and offer similar approaches in our teachings.......pushing ideas, developing variations to a theme, creating colour, mood, tone in the 'works'.

IT WAS ALL A WONDERFUL EXPERIENCE

SEEING THE SIGHTS

With two days to spare at the end of the summer school I was privileged to be able to stay an extra night with the family of the director of the Schwaeisher Kunst Sommer' Dr Markwart Herzog. Here he is and just look at those wonderful views.

This was a special view for me as Germany is on the left of the river and Austria is on the other side. For those of you who do not know this my dad was German and my mum is from Austria.

So my thanks to all the students, tutors, Dr Herzogs family (picture on the left), and Dr Sylvia Heudecker, the director of studies on the right

Well just make sure you do not miss out on this event next year, as it is truly amazing. You would have a choice from so many creative workshops and have a truly wonderful experience.

LETS QUICKLY RETURN TO MOOR HALL

While I was in Bavaria, Sian Martin was making her first visit to Moor Hall. Here are the results from her workshop as promised. I understand that it was a great two days and I am not surprised as Sian is a great tutor.
