Help the LWVF win $10,000!
Chuck O'Neal , Chairman of the Natural Resources Committee and First Vice President of the LWV of Florida, has been selected as one of three finalist in the Cox Conserves Heroes contest. His cause is saving the Florida Black Bear from an ill-conceived, unscientific hunt in which over 1700 permits have been sold to kill 320 bears. The winner selects where the $10,000 prize goes to benefit the cause. He has selected the LWV of Florida Education Fund to receive the prize.

Today in Orlando,  WFTV 9 Family Connection and The Trust for Public Land announced that they are recognizing volunteers who are creating, preserving or enhancing shared outdoor spaces.

A total of $20,000 will be donated to local environmental nonprofits on behalf of the three finalists. Each finalist has secured a $5,000 donation for his or her environmental nonprofit of choice. The finalists are now competing for an additional $5,000 - bringing the total award to $10,000 for the winner's nonprofit of choice. The winner will be chosen through an online public vote.
