PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Hello Lakeview Families,
 
First of all, thank you for your kind words and well wishes as we welcomed little Sam into our home! He is a such a sweet, calm little boy; Amy, the boys and I are over the moon about him. Forgive a doting father for  sharing a photo...
 
Second, I am grateful to Trent Neugebauer, our associate principal; Steve Mezich, our principal substitute; and Debus, Kristin, Sandra in the main office for holding down the fort while I was away before winter break and on Tuesdays and Thursdays each week. Lakeview would not be what is it without them.

Kindy Registration Beings 2/2/17!
Volunteers Needed!

2017-2018 Kindergarten registration starts on Thursday, February 2. (Why yes that is Groundhog day!)   To register your child, please bring the following items to Lakeview on Feb 2:
  • Proof of child's birth date, such as a birth certificate or passport
  • Child's health history, including current immunization
  • Emergency contact information
  • Proof of residency (such as an energy bill with your current address, lease agreement, or mortgage statement)

University Bookstore Book Fair at Lakeview
 
The Lakeview library will be hosting our first ever University Bookstore book fair during January conference week.  The book fair will feature new books from the University Bookstore. They have a great selection. P urchases made online and at the University Bookstore during the week of January 23-29 will also benefit the Lakeview library.

The fair will be open from 8:00-9:00AM and from 12:00-4:00PM before and after school on January 24th, 26th, and 27th.

PTSA Nominating Committee--NomCom

Happy New Year Everyone!  The  Lakeview PTSA Board is in the process of forming a Nominating Committee (lovingly called: NomCom) in charge of recruiting future PTSA Board Positions: 2017/18 school year. 

What is Nominating Committee?
- A group of three Lakeview parents who will be in charge of recruiting future board members for 2017/18 school year
- One of the three members is a board member (already appointed)

How long is this assignment?
- NomCom typically completes work in two months. 
- The new board needs to be voted on in our spring general meeting - scheduled for April 20 or June 01.

By when do we need to form NomCom?
- Our goal is to have NomCom Formed by February 23. 

This is is an excellent way to explore if you would like to serve on the Lakeview PTSA Board as either a board member, event coordinator or a program chairperson. For more information or to fill out a submission form, please visit the Lakeview PTSA website.

Attention Parents of Fifth Graders:
Kirkland Middle School Open House on 1/24!

Kirkland Middle School (KiMS) is hosting an open house on Thursday, January 24, from 7 to 8PM in the KiMS Commons.  The meeting will give you an overview of what life at KiMS will be like for your child and help get you thinking about next year.  We hope you can make it!
Spring Box Tops Drive

Box Tops are found on hundreds of your favorite products (see link to products here) --you probably have some in your home right now--and saving them can help benefit Lakeview!  Each Box Top clipped earns Lakeview 10 cents.  Simply clipping the Box Tops from items you already buy is an easy way to help.

Box tops can be delivered to your teacher at any time.  A special prize will be awarded to the class that turns in the most Box Tops by FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 24TH so get clipping, Leopards!
Choice School Enrollment

Choice school applications are now available online for the 2017-18 school year. The deadline to apply is 
4PM January 20, 2017 for any school that relies on a lottery to determine enrollment. Parents of students in grade five should have received the Middle School Options booklet. They outline the opportunities in these respective levels, including information about neighborhood schools and choice schools. The booklets are also available on the district website. New videos about each choice school are posted on the district website and YouTube channel.
Winter Wishes Thanks You

T hank you to everyone who participated in Winter Wishes this past holiday season.  It was a huge success and thanks to the generosity of our Lakeview community we were able to provide over 200 gifts to Lakeview families in need of a little extra help this past year.  

Each of the  families also received QFC gift cards and basic hygiene products.  Thank you again to everyone who helped support this program !
