PRINCIPAL'S CORNER

Dear Lakeview Families,

This year we redesigned our leadership and service model, from a blended 4th/5th-grade model in which students were selected, or rejected, by application, to an all 5th grade model in which every student is expected to lead and serve in one of three roles: ASB, Kid Coaches, or Safety Patrol. We are delighted to see how our 5th grader have risen to the occasion, serving the school and community as model Leopards!

Our leadership and service students have some exciting and important work coming up in the next month. ASB will be kicking off our spring school service project in March, with a focus on raising funds for the American Red Cross's International Outreach program (you can learn more about that program here. Also, our leadership and service students will be providing feedback to the PTSA on stretch goal ideas for creative and impactful uses of funds raised above the Jog-A-Thon goal. Last, our leadership and service students will be handwriting thank you notes to many of the generous donors who have supported Lakeview this year.

Before you know it, we will be meeting with our 4th graders about their responsibility to step into these roles next year, stayed tuned 4th grade families for those communications. When you see a leadership and service student helping at cross walks, running a service project, or coaching our kindergarteners, I hope you will recognize them for their efforts and remind them of our leadership and service expectations:

·         Consistently follow school rules (Work Hard, Be Kind, Be Safe) and model leadership skills
·         Show responsibility and hard work in class and outside of class
·         Show respect for teachers, staff and students
·         Love and honor our school.

Thanks - Steve
