Houghton Center Redevelopment

The City of Kirkland is considering land use code changes that would impact the closest major intersection to Lakeview. The official name of the project is the "Houghton Everest Neighborhood Center & 6th Street Corridor Study," (HERC), and it involves putting five-story mixed use buildings at that intersection.  Currently there are no plans to make any improvements to the streets surrounding these buildings.  The City's Transportation Commission will determine if there will be any transportation improvements.

The Kirkland Planning Commission and Houghton Community Council had a study session on February 23. You can read the background information including transportation study and recommendations here.

There will be an open house and public hearing on Thursday, March 23, at City Hall. The open house is at 6pm and the hearing is at 7pm. If you want to have a voice in what happens with the Houghton/Everest area, this is the meeting to attend!  Information about speaking and/or submitting written comments will be posted on the Planning Commission website.

The complete timeline for this project is as follows:
  • 3.14.17 - Everest Neighborhood Association Meeting. 7 PM City Hall. Design and Traffic Consultants give their presentations and attendees can ask questions.
