Principal's Corner

Dear Lakeview Families,

At Lakeview we pride ourselves in being a training school, welcoming up-and-coming educators to volunteer, observe, and student teach at Lakeview. Mr. Falla, who we are thrilled to have hired for next year, was one of these up-and-coming educators we welcomed last fall, along three other student teachers (Martinez in Davidson, Wesley in Green, Nichols in Coghlan), and six students from Northwest University who completed a September Methods experience at Lakeview last fall. This spring we hosted nine NU students for an experimental ELA practicum experience in the classrooms, and we currently have a teacher from China observing in the classrooms through NU.

With those successes under our belt, we are thrilled to have nine new Northwest U students signed up for September Methods next year, along with a student teacher for the spring time. Welcoming these students is a win-win, as they have the opportunity to learn from some of education's finest teachers at Lakeview, and we get to connect with the energy and enthusiasm of new educators steeped in the latest research and best practice.

Lakeview is a special place, and we are thrilled to be a launching pad for the best and brightest teachers of tomorrow.

Help Wanted!!

Many of our PTSA volunteers are graduating with their fifth graders in a few weeks and we have many open positions. Two critical committees are Fundraising and Membership--we could use two fundraising co-chairs and one membership co-chair. Without these two committees the PTSA will have to drastically cut services next year. Other positions we could use volunteers for include:

- Back to School Ice Cream Social Coordinator
- Walk to School Week or Day Coordinator
- Reflections Contest Coordinator

Lakeview Egg Drop A "Smashing" Success

Pardon the pun, but we were just so excited about the kids' contraptions during Lakeview's egg drop on Wednesday. Thanks to the firefighters from Kirkland's Station 27 for bringing out their ladder truck to help our Leopards test their contraptions. See photos on the PTSA Facebook page.

Field Day June 19

Save the date for Lakeview's Field Day on Monday, June 19. More parent volunteers are needed if you can spare a few hours to have fun with our kiddos. Field day is broken into two chunks:

K-2 grade from 9:10-10:40

3-5 grade from 10:30-12:15

Lakeview Yearbooks

If you missed your chance to purchase a yearbook online, now is your second chance. Non-personalized 2016-2017 yearbooks may be purchased for $20. Yearbooks will be distributed no later than the last week of school. To reserve a yearbook contact PTSA Yearbook Coordinator Talita at [email protected]. Please include your child's name, grade and teacher. For yearbooks scholarship requests please contact the school counselor Rhonda Nelson at [email protected].

Order School Supplies & Support the PTSA

The PTSA is participating in the School Tool Box again this year. Order today and choose to delay the delivery of your items until the end of summer. 10% of the total sales price will be given to the Lakeview PTSA.

Lakeview Overcrowding Update

Thank you to all the parents who were able to attend the LWSD Board meeting last Monday. We had about 35-40 parents showing their support for Lakeview. A small group of parents and building staff will be meeting directly with Ms. Pierce and her team in the coming weeks to discuss the overcrowding at Lakeview.

Our membership drive will close on June 18. In July and August, we will transition from the current MySchoolAnywhere membership database to the mandated WSPTA PT Avenue. This will eliminate the need to maintain two databases and will increase efficiencies and save valuable volunteer hours.
