Forge Update
The F4 Devices Forge Echo unit has been a verForge Small 2ay popular unit in the past 6 months.  This unit has a U-blox internal GPS receiver that performs great in all our canopy GPS tests. The numeric keypad has received rave reviews as the best keyboard design on a rugged unit.  The integrated ultrasound has been
outstanding and really separates the Echo model from everything else out there.

Trimble Forestry
LMSS + Trimble Forestry Partnership
LandMark Spatial Solutions is proud to announce a direct partnership with Trimble Forestry.  We have sold Trimble products for the past 12 years, but now we at LMSS, are stocking and shipping solutions and accessories directly from Trimble.

NEW Trimble Juno T41 Enhanced Series  Trimble recently announced several new models for their Juno T41 series.  The "S" model will have a robust 1D oT41G2r 2D barcode reader for rapid laser scanning.  The "R" model will have an ultra-high frequency RFID scanner powered by ThingMagic for high value asset inspection and maintenance, and inventory management and tracking.  Lastly, the "G" Model will have a 1-2 meter high accuracy GPS that performs well under canopy.  I have personally tested the G model and was very impressed with the native accuracy in poor conditions.

NEW Timber Harvesting - Timber Pilot
One of Trimble's newest solutions involves putting GPS anTimberpilot Yuma2d harvest boundary data in a harvester to pilot or guide the machine through the woods and keep track of what has and has not been harvested.  This solution is simple, cost-effective, and accurate.  Click here for more info.

NEI
LMSS + Navigation Electronics Partnership
LandMark Spatial Solutions is also proud to announce a direct partnership with Navigation Electronics, Inc.  NEI is one of Trimble's oldest and most recognized business partners for survey, precision mapping, and marine applications.  Our partnership with them is helping us offer you the best sub-meter and sub-foot GPS products on the market.  NEI also offers custom cases, lidar scanning, vehicle track and trace, custom cables, repairs, and more.  Contact us if you have questions about any of these applications.

Precision GPS Mapping (Sub-meter/Sub-foot)
If you need extra accurate GPS positioning, we now offer sub-meter and sub
Trimble Geo 6000-foot real-time or post-processed solutions like the Trimble Geo XT and Geo XH 6000 handhelds.  These guys now track both the GPS and Russian GLONASS satellites, so they really work under canopy.  We can run Solo Forest, ArcPad, or TerraSync on these units, and you can either use WAAS, real-time VRS corrections, or post-process your data for extra accuracy.

Log and Stockpile Inventory
If you need to know how many tons or logs or chips you have sitting around, we have a great laser mapping soLTI Stockpilelution that lets you inventory your log or chip piles with nothing more than a laser and a data collector.  You can efficiently map your piles, report your volumes on the handheld, and, if necessary, transfer the data to ArcGIS and create 2D and 3D models of you piles.  We sell and train on the solutions, or, in some cases, we can perform a 3rd party inventory for you.  Click here for more information.

NEW TruPulse 200L and 200X Lasers
Laser Technology recently released two new lasers to round out their widely-popular TruPulse 200 lineup.  The 200L is is capable of takiTP200 L and Xng professional-grade measurements using a built-in inclinometer, but is priced more like a recreational rangefinder ($445).  This model produces +/- 1 m (3 ft) range accuracy and 0.5 degree relative inclination accuracy.  The new 200X model produces much higher precision measurements with +/- 4 cm (2 in) range accuracy and 0.1 degree for the inclination accuracy. The added protection and waterproof housing with an adjustable illuminated in-scope LED makes the 200X ideal for accurate measurement in challenging conditions.  Click here for more info on the 200L.

ArcGIS 10.2 Released
ESRI recently released ArcGIS 10.2.  We always get a lot of questions about whether or not it is worth it to upgrade or even simply install the newest version.  One thing we like about 10.2 is the return of the Bing Maps.  Depending upon where you are and what flight covers your area, this may or may not be helpful.  Darian is going to post some info on how to do this on the website very soon.  Other enhancements include:
  • Improved performance - ArcGIS Desktop now supports multiple processors/cores with parallel processing
  • Improved security - Support Public Key Infrastructure
  • 16 new geoprocessing tools including Excel to Table, Table to Excel, Optimized Hot Spot Analysis, Merge Mosaic Dataset Items and more
  • Inclusion of Mailing Label Templates with Report Writer
  • Portal for ArcGIS - lets you deploy your own version of ArcGIS Online behind your firewall
  • Increased number of services and apps with ArcGIS Online
  • Data and Map Document Compatibility with ArcGIS 10.1 - no need to back save new geodatabases or map documents to ArcGIS 10.1 versions
  • Support for 2013 Version DWG files
ArcGIS Online Update/Training
The other big announcement from ESRI that will affect you is that if you keep your annual maintenance current, you will be given a free ArcGIS Online subscription.  This is pretty significant if you are one of the millions of smartphone or iPad users who want an easy way to carry your GIS data with you wherever you go.  As a result of this, we will be expanding our ArcGIS classes very soon to include an optional 4 hour crash course on how to use ArcGIS online, upload your data, and then use your data in the field on your own connected and unconnected devices.  Stay tuned and check the website for more info.

ike

LMSS + ikeGPS Partnership
LMSS embarked on another new partnership this year with a company out of New Zealand called ikeGPS.  So what is the ikeGPS device? It is a remote measurement mobile device that integrates GPS with a laser rangefinder, 5 MP digital camera, compass, a ruggedized mobile computer and our ikeTools and ikeSolutions software. The key here is the integration of all of these technologies into a single easy to use device.

ike Poles pic

While the ike is a little overkill for most traditional forestry applications, it is ideal for mapping electrical systems, conducting pole loading audits, mapping urban assets, mapping oil and gas systems and anywhere else that is difficult to access.  Please go to www.ikegps.com to learn more about the ike and please give us a call if you would like to schedule a web meeting to see its capabilities for your application.
Thank you very much for reading this email.  We hope to hear from you.

Best regards,
