Reducing Beverage Calories Nationwide

America's Beverage Companies Announce Commitment

Today President Bill Clinton announced our landmark agreement with the American Beverage Association, The Coca-Cola Company, Dr Pepper Snapple Group, and PepsiCo to reduce the consumption of beverage calories across America.

Through this landmark agreement, America's leading beverage companies have set a goal to reduce beverage calories consumed per person nationally by 20 percent by 2025.

Working with the food and beverage industry is a critical component of our mission to reduce the prevalence of childhood obesity. And today, with a commitment from the three largest beverage companies and the American Beverage Association, we are able to channel the reach, influence and innovation of the beverage industry to increase the consumption of water and no- or lower-calorie beverages across the nation.

The commitment announced today at the 2014 Clinton Global Initiative Annual Meeting builds on our work with the American Beverage Association, which began in 2006, and has resulted in the reduction of beverage calories shipped to schools by 90 percent. As with that agreement, our commitment announced today is also aimed at reducing beverage calorie consumption, but this time for all Americans.
