Call for WWI Monuments

In preparation for the 100th anniversary of the U.S. entry into World War 1, Landmarks Illinois is conducting a statewide survey of monuments to soldiers and veterans of the Great War.

If you know of a WWI monument or marker in your community, contact Suzanne Germann, Landmarks Illinois Director of Grants & Easements, at SGermann@Landmarks.org. Please include any details you have about the monument, such as the dates of construction, condition and photos, if possible.

In March, Landmarks Illinois also announced a new grant program that will provide funding to communities looking to restore their WWI monuments. You can learn more about the grant program at our website.

This project is made possible with generous support from the Pritzker Military Foundation.

FOR SALE: Imperiled Buildings
Rosemor Lodge
615 Lincoln, Glencoe

In foreclosure, the Edward L. Glaser House, "Rosemor Lodge", is irreplaceable. It is in deteriorating condition but has excellent integrity. Because of its need for much rehabilitation and its lack of protection, the house is a prime candidate for demolition, with the land available for redevelopment. The house, extensively remodeled by noted architect Benjamin Marshall in 1916, is included in "North Shore Chicago, Houses of the Lakefront Suburbs, 1890-1940 Stuart Cohen and Susan Benjamin," (Acanthus Press, 2004). It is also included in the timeline that is part of the recently published book on Benjamin Marshall, "Benjamin Marshall, Chicago Architect," (Acanthus Press, 2015).
