Greetings,
On April 3, 1998, the First Friday Book Synopsis was born, as Karl Krayer and I presented our first two business book synopses. Karl presented The Leadership Engine by Noel Tichy and I presented The Circle of Innovation by Tom Peters.
Now, 15 full years later, we are still at it, as we have been every month. Two book synopses, still with great food, in a great setting, providing valuable content and great networking and collaboration opportunity.
For the begining of our 16th year, I will present the much-talked-about book by Sheryl Sandberg, Lean In: Women, Work, and the Will to Lead. Sheryl Sandberg is the COO of Facebook, and discussions about her book are popping up all over the place. I don't think I remember any other book in the entire 15 year history of our event that had this much discussion, with agreement and plenty of disagreement, swirling around like this book has generated. (Ms. Sandberg was just interviewed/profiled on 60 Minutes, the night before her book was officially released).
Karl Krayer will present his synopsis of Maynark Webb's book Rebooting Work: Transform How You Work in the Age of Entrepreneurship. And, yes, the way people work has been transformed, and continues to be, in this constantly-changing world.
We will add some special elements for our 15th Anniversary. Among them will be two additional book giveaways for our drawing -- copies of the hardcover versions of the first two books we ever presented.
So many of you who read this e-mail have helped make our event a success. We thank you. And we hope you will make an extra effort to attend, and that you will invite your friends, as we kick off our 16th year.
One more thing: I have written an article a day on our blog for 30 days, each highlighting a different book from the 15 years that I have presented these synopses. (Kind of my "favorite two books from each year -- 30 books in 30 days). You can find these articles on our blog. Or, you might get to these more quickly by going to Randy' s blog entries. I completed the 30 days of posts with yesterday's article on Quiet by Susan Cain.
I hope you will take the time to check these out. It is a walk down memory lane, and a pretty quick reminder of many of the key business book ideas and themes over the last fifteen years.
And please come join us this Friday, April 5, 2013. I think you'll be glad you did.
