School of Art

 

Now in its third year of operation, the Homer Watson Summer School of Art was developed as a unique opportunity for individuals to learn and experience visual art through progressive instruction, constructive peer learning and lively in-studio application. The following programs will be offered this year:

 

1274 Homer Watson Summer School of Art: Discovering Rich Canadian Art

This class centers around the education of our rich Canadian art history. The focus will be on Canadian artists Homer Watson, Group of Seven, Emily Carr and Painter's 11.

Ages 14+ with Scott McNichol, 9:00 am-noon . . . $99/$110  

 

1275 Homer Watson Summer School of Art: Contemporary Techniques in Drawing, Painting & Sculpture  

Students will examine the work of key Canadian contemporary artists, explore various media and techniques and create individual work while exploring a collective theme.  

Ages 14+ with Pearl Van Geest, 1:00-4:00 pm . . . $99/$110

  

12106 Homer Watson Summer School of Art: Exploring the Grand River Through Art

With the inspiration of the Grand River, students will create artwork using traditional techniques and materials. Students will spend Wednesday on an exciting canoe trip on the Grand River while stopping to sketch and paint along the way!

12107 Homer Watson Summer School of Art: Biophilia - the Connection of Art & the Natural World

Students will examine various media and techniques and create individual work while exploring the collective theme of biophilia.

1252 Crown Jewels & Armory Extravaganza: July 3-6

Participants will explore a variety of different artistic mediums as they investigate the treasures of the British Monarchy!

1284 Posh Pottery: July 30 - August 3

Learn about England and explore the world of kings and queens with clay! Young artists will be introduced to the fundamentals of pottery while creating royal themed projects.

1285 Art Garden: July 30 - August 3

Campers learn about and use natural pigments, make unique plant prints, learn about the world of colour, and discover interesting ways to use some ordinary objects!

1255 Pottery Foundations: A British Twist: July 3-6

The Beatles yellow submarine, double decker buses, queens, kings, princes and princesses and tea. All things English! Let's explore what England and its potters are all about!

Enhance your creativity, have some fun and learn the basics in this dynamite camp! Projects include portfolio design, optical   illusions, proportions of the human face and more!

1258 Drawing & Painting Foundations: July 3-6

Develop and strengthen your young artist drawing and painting skills through challenging and interesting exercises. Emphasis is placed on personal development and exploration.

1265 Sculptural Foundations I: July 9-13

Using a variety of sculptural material, young artists engage in the principles of design, construction and finishes. Emphasis is placed on creativity, idea development and fun!

1266 Pottery Fit for Royalty: July 9-13

Students will prepare clay tea sets, crown centre pieces, tea sandwiches and biscuits for the arrival of the Queen's paintings!

1267 Artworks Fit for a Queen: July 9-13

Students will have the opportunity to observe and study first hand, artworks fit for a queen before creating and showcasing their own Royal Collection exhibition of artworks.

1281 Portraits and the Figure: July 23-27

Historical and contemporary artists will inspire students while learning a variety of approaches to drawing and painting the figure.

12124 SAMS Art: August 14-September 4

This is a wonderful opportunity for artists of various skill levels to gain or to strengthen a variety of different visual art skills and interact with other like-minded artists. The focus of this class will be on the mediums each student is interested in exploring; each student will be encouraged to try new ideas. Individual and group projects are both appropriate for this class.

12126 Pottery Inspired by Nature: July 5-August 2 (no class July 19)

Join Patti Olshina for 4 weeks of nature inspired pottery! Projects will be functional, sculptural and organic. This class will allow for personal exploration of form and design using the bounty of nature that surrounds Homer Watson House & Gallery this summer!
