Peter Anton is an elderly artist living in poor conditions until he befriends two filmmakers. Shot over eight years, this documentary captures Anton's first major art exhibition and the controversy it generates. By highlighting the people in Anton's community compelled to help this hilarious and heartbreaking character, this coming-of-(old)-age story explores the intersections of social norms, elder care, and artistic expression.

Eighteen-year-old Theo has an encounter with Sadie, his image of a perfect girl who lives deep within his subconscious. Unaware that others cannot see her, he is sent to a mental hospital where Theo travels deep into his imagination with Sadie.

The Backward Class

Madeleine Grant, Canada, 2014, 91 min.

 

A class of Dalit (untouchable) caste students prepares for the national high school graduation exams. As the first group of Dalit to undertake this endeavor, pressures are high. The opportunity to graduate and attend college could potentially break these students and their families out of a cycle of poverty that has disadvantaged them for generations.

Sanctuary: A Documentary 

Colton Shone, USA, 2015, 62 min.

 

An undocumented immigrant who has lived in the United States for over ten years faces federal deportation proceedings. Southside Presbyterian, a Tucson-area church with a history of providing sanctuary for illegal immigrants, opens its doors for the man and his family. They will stay on the church property until the federal government reverses its decision.

 

Panel discussion with filmmaker will follow the screening.

Dropkick

Robert Loomis, USA, 2015, 85 min.

 

When one of their teammates is killed in an accident,  a group of female rugby players join together to fulfill the deceased's final wishes. The group steals their teammate's body to carry out her plan in defiance of her family and the law.
