Late Breaking Band News & Rehearsals
Mill Creek Jazz Festival Dec 3rd - Drivers urgently needed 

The Mill Creek Jazz Festival is coming up quickly and we do not have any drivers! Both Jazz Band I and Jazz Band II will be attending this festival and we will need parent drivers to transport 45 students to and from the event.  We will meet at BHS at  11 AM to head to the festival at Jackson High School. We should return to BHS around 4:30 PM.  If you can help drive, please contact Ingrid Riley   ASAP to say you will drive and how many students you will be able to take. You may also need to fill out special paperwork for driving students.

Winter Concert Practice Schedule and Carnegie Hall Photo

There are 2 after school  practice days coming soon to prepare for the Winter Concert as well as take  a photo for Carnegie Hall.  Please see Mr. James if you have a conflict.

Wednesday, November 30th, 3:30 - 4:30 PM 
     Symphonic Band from 3:30 - 4:00 PM
     Wind Ensemble and Percussion: 4:00 - 4:30 PM.  We will be taking a photo for Carnegie Hall                   Please have your COMPLETE Concert Attire on for this practice

Selected Wind Ensemble  and Percussion members will also be practicing for the Mozart Requiem on  Friday, December 2nd 3:30 - 5:30 PM and Tuesday, December 6th 3:30 - 5:30  PM

Starting Friday, December 2nd, the Ballard Band will be playing at selected home Ballard Basketball games. Click here for schedule and details.

Wind Ensemble NYC Trip Fee and Form
The next Wind Ensemble payment for New York is due by December 1 st .  This payment of $500 should bring everyone's contribution to $1500 so far.  The final payment will be due in early January and will be determined by the overall cost of the trip as well as any fundraising efforts that students are currently taking part in.  Please complete this Liability Waiver from the festival. This form is due next Wednesday, November 30, so that Mr. James can collate the forms and get them to New York by December 1. Students will receive a hard copy of this form in class tomorrow

Spotlight Gala A Success!
Thank you for your support!

Thank you to our guests, sponsors, donors, student and adult volunteers and of course, our Directors and Small Ensembles, for making the 2016 Spotlight Gala a success. With everyone's help, we raised money for all four programs to pay for vital program necessities not funded by the school, such as uniforms, clinicians, and scholarships. See photos of the evening here.

But we are not done yet! 
If you were not able to attend this sold out event, you may still support our fundraising efforts in three ways:

1) Sign your student up for the Director's Parties!  Spots are still available for the following student activities:
Mr. James' Movie Night on Monday, December 12 from 6-8:30 ($30). 
Ms. Newell's Night at the Symphony on either January 19 or 20 from 6-10 p.m ($40)
Ms. Rowley and Mr. Riley's Karaoke Party on January 6 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. ($30)

Receipts and Housekeeping Items: 

Thank you for attending the Spotlight Gala last weekend.  If we have your email address on file, your receipts will be emailed today, from the email address ballardperformingarts@gmail.com . Receipts will also be sent through the USPS mail, early next week.  Remember you may be able to make your donation go farther with matching funds. Ask your employer if there is a matching program where you work.

Les Misérables Auditions
Tuesday, November 29th 

Please select a song of 16 bars or at least 1 verse and 1 chorus. An accompanist will be provided. Students MUST have sheet music. No a capella auditions will be heard. Students must sign up on the black box doors for an audition time. All students must bring all three completed and signed forms to the audition: 


RENT - in concert
December 1st and 3rd at 7:30 PM at BHS

The Ballard High School Thespian Troupe is proud to present two benefit concert performances (singing of the score rather than a fully staged play) of the musical Rent on the 20th anniversary of the show and with the first performance on December 1st, World AIDS Day. It will run for two nights only, Thursday, December 1st and Saturday, December 3rd at 7:30 PM. Fifty percent of the proceeds will go toward the conversion of Ballard's stage lighting from incandescent to LED and fifty percent will be donated to Lifelong, a Seattle HIV/AIDS organization.

Choir News
Bremerton Jazz Festival Recap

Congratulations to Vocal Jazz for a beautiful performance last Saturday at the Bremerton Jazz Festival.  Our students' tone quality and musicianship helped their performance rise to the top!  Clinician Dave Barduhn also praised their musical discipline and focus.  In addition to Vocal Jazz's performance, Meg Shepherd, Diego Roberts Buceta, and Zipporah Johnson all participated in a solo clinic with phenomenal local jazz singer Greta Matassa.  It was a fun and educational day!

Men's Ensemble and Women's Chamber Choir 
with SeaChordsmen Sunday, December 11th

Men's Ensemble and Women's Chamber Choir will join The Seattle SeaChordsmen Barbershop Chorus in their holiday concert, "Caroling, Caroling!".  The concert will be held at 2:00 PM at Phinney Ridge Lutheran Church.  Details and tickets can be found hereCome out and support our Ballard musicians at this incredibly fun annual event!    Attention participating students: Call time is noon.


Chamber Orchestra with NW Philharmonia
Concert Review

Chamber Orchestra played beautifully this past Sunday in the side-by-side performance with Philharmonia Northwest at St. Stephens's Episcopal Church in Laurelhurst. Excellent job Chamber Orchestra!








Winter Music Concert Details
















Mozart's Requiem Groups and Rehearsal Dates:

Students in the following groups will perform selections from Mozart's Requiem all three nights as the finale of each concert:
Symphonic Orchestra, Chamber Orchestra, Concert Choir,  Advanced Chorale,  selected Wind Ensemble  and Percussion members.  Rehearsals are: 
Friday, Dec 2  3:30 - 5:30 PM and  Tuesday,  Dec 6  3:30 - 5:30 PM

World's Finest Candy Bar
Student Fundraiser Opportunity

Candy sales  will continue through Monday, November 28th.  Candy bars sell for $1. Students may only check out one case of 60 candy bars at a time.  All money, checks made payable to BPA or cash - NO coins! - is due on Monday, November 28th. Proceeds from candy bar sales will be deposited to each student's individual ASB account to be used for trips, camp fees, annual fees, t-shirts and concert attire.
