Franklin Art and Artists Opens June 2

Local talent and local subjects will be on display at The Harding Museum during the Historical Society's Franklin Art and Artists summer exhibit. Art by people of all ages will be on display June 2 through September 29. The Museum is open Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. and by appointment.

Art includes watercolors, oil, textiles, computer-generated, pottery, and more.

Several pieces from the museum collection will be showcased during the exhibit. One is an oil painting of the Franklin suspension bridge by Effie Corwin Trader. The other, shown here, is a recently restored and framed DeNise oil painting that was painted in 1858 and is the oldest known picture of Franklin. Prints will be available of both for purchase.

Trader is the sister of the founders of Clovernook School for the Blind and Visually Impaired. Clovernook is currently exhibiting her work.

Franklin City Schools is an in-kind sponsor of this exhibit. For information, call (937) 746-8295.

Franklin is a Riverway Community; plan to attend and learn more about this initiative, which stretches 99 miles from Sidney to Hamilton.

Cost is $25 pp. Please call Liz Buchanan at (937) 746-0875 to RSVP no later than June 6.

Trivia Thank yous

A full house of brainiancs battled down to the wire, but in the end, the team “We’ve Still Got It” took top honors, with the “Jeopardy Rejects” coming in second, and Franklin Township taking third at the Historical Society's Annual Trivia Fundraiser.

All three teams donated their winnings back to the Historical Society.

A special thanks to sponsors Drew Mantel with Ameriprise Financial, Bob Bowman, and J.D. Legends (in-kind sponsor). Raffle prize donors were Miss Selby’s Soap, Buddy’s Garden, and Julie Kellis/Tom Kuhn.

The challenge is now thrown down for April 2019.
