MESSAGE FROM JOHN
2017 was a very busy year and one that will set the pace for 2018. Do you know that our 10 year anniversary is fast approaching? 2019 will mark the 10th year of FMA. Hard to believe but true! So in preparation of the of this milestone, an annual gala is in the works. We now have five solos with one in the wings. Last but not least, a new campaign has been created for 2018 to raise awareness, promote growth, and increase support for FMA.

In review of 2017, FMA has nearly 600 members, over 20 ambassadors, over 30 corporate members and sponsors, an advisory board, a scholarship program (FMA Solo Program) that has awarded 6 scholarship of which 5 have soloed with one in the wings, two programs being developed: FMA Tailwheel Tango and FMA Finale Fellowship, an internship program, saw the HangarJAM concept take hold, and participation at over 8 annual events with participation at many smaller ones around the country. More information to come in January when the rest of the stats are tabulated.

Artist & Aviators: a Landing of Flying Musicians will be our annual gathering. This will be FMA's event! An event where we can meet annually to renew old friendships, create new ones, catch up on what's happened, share ideas while raising awareness and funds for FMA's programs. We are targeting the fall of 2018 in Nashville, TN. A committee will be formed soon to start preparations. Let me know immediately if you would like to be in on this groundbreaking committee. I look forward to you joining us.

Since the last newsletter, we have had two solos: Courtney Taylor in Canada and Aaron Smokovitz in Michigan. You can read more about their journey while leaving your encouraging comments at FMAsolo.org.  That makes five solos with one in the wings. This program is such a success. Even the finalist who stay engaged are being assisted. We are making a difference!

A huge thank you to all who have supported the FMA Solo Program, especially: Bose Aviation, Sporty's Pilot Shop, MyGoFlight.com, Gleim Aviation, Heaven's Landing, Aviators Hot Line, Banjo Ben Clark, 121five.com, Trade-A-Plane, Quality Aviation Services, AvSport of Lock Haven, Harv's Air, and Murfreesboro Aviation.

A new campaign has been created for 2018 for all to participate in. Members are being asked to create short videos showing their airplane being loaded with gear, flying to a gig, performing, then the reverse. Already we have sponsors stepping up: Voyage Air Guitar, MyGoFlight, AirTurn, ToneWoodAmp, Bose, and Sony. Perhaps you would like to participate. Let's all work together to raise awareness, promote growth, and increase support for programs in 2018.

Stay engaged and enthusiastic!

Blue Skies,

John

HOME FIELD SPOTLIGHT
Your Home Field
FMA members come from all over the world. In the interest of promoting our members, their airports, and aviation, we thought it would be interesting to showcase one member's home field each month.

This month's Home Field Spotlight focuses on Brooksville - Tampa Bay Regional Airport  (KBKV), home to member Lynn Postel .

Tell us about  your airport, Lynn.
Brooksville (BKV) is a prior Army air base. We have a control tower and currently one FBO on the field. Dual runways make it a versatile airport in the thirty mile Mode C veil of Tampa. 9-27 is 7004 ft. Long, and 3-21 is 5002 ft. In length. This allows corporate jet traffic and piston travel as well. We have GPS approaches to all runways, and an ILS to runway 9. Come visit when you have time. Lynn

What makes it special/unique/interesting/fun?
BKV has an active EAA chapter, some military parachute jumping and a host of different aircraft. We provide Young Eagles flights and enjoy just going around at the airport.

About KBKV:
Welcome to Brooksville-Tampa Bay Regional Airport & Technology Center. We are located on Florida's Adventure Coast north of Tampa, west of Orlando and, as our FAA airport identifier BKV suggests, one of the Best Kept Values in the South. Our airport is at the geographic center of Florida, making it an ideal market access venue for pilots and businesses who value modern aviation facilities and first-class tenant care.

Send in information to be considered.
EVENTS
HangarJams
Host a HangarJam at your airport. Meet local aviators and musicians. Introduce local musicians to aviation and aviators to music. Enjoy music and hangar flying. Help raise funds for FMA programs and scholarships. We have raised over $300.00 thus far.

EVENT RECAP

AOPA Tampa Fly-In:
What a really neat spot to put an airport. The last AOPA fly-In was held at the Peter O. Knight (KTPF) airport on October 27-28 in Florida. Lou and Betty from Bristell Aircraft (FMA CM & sponsor) helped to staff the FMA display which was in the exhibit area right next to our friends the Seaplane Pilots Associations exhibit. We met a bunch of interesting and enthusiastic aviation folk.

Weather was perfect for a mid afternoon arrival on Friday. Saturday started out great then a tropical depression started moving in from south. It held off until the show ended but made for an exciting IFR flight down to Naples afterwards.

The list of AOPA fly-Ins for 2018 has been posted. If you would like to exhibit for FMA please let us know. These are fun events with lots of potential for outreach.

DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase:
The DeLand Sport Aviation Showcase in sunny DeLand,
Miles Reese on tenor & Drew Medina on alto
Florida  was a very good event for FMA.  Your 2015 FMA Solo  recipient,  Drew Medina,  arrived from Gainesville where he is s tudying Aerospace Engineering at the  University of Florida. Drew talked about his journey and even played a few tunes to the delight of the audience.
Gary Filip on keys & Drew Medina on alto
A huge thank you to members Miles Reese, Lyn Postel, Gary Filip, and Chris Smith for their contributions. A huge thanks also go out to Harry Rios and Sims Kline for tickling the ivory.  Harry was introduced to the EAA chapter and it appears he has been bitten by the drea ded aviation bug.
Please put this event on your calendar for 2018 - November 1-3, 2018.

PRODUCT ENDORSEMENTS
Bose L1 Compact & ToneMatch
"I use the L1 Compact for small venue and house concerts up to 75 people. It's lightweight, compact, easy to set up and it always sounds great. The L1 Compact even fits in my airplane with a Honda generator for those outback gigs." - Jeff Auen

AirTurn goStands

"I purchased a pair of AirTurn Mic Stands for my airplane sound rig. They pack really small and weigh only 3 pounds or so, but when you set them up, they are rock solid and feel very much like a "normal" high-quality mic stand. They're an essential part of my sound gear that fits inside my airplane." - Jeff Auen

We encourage you to send in your endorsement for one or more FMA's sponsor products. For testimonials, visit the special testimonial page
