Good things are happening at Manchester Community Health Center, Child Health Services at MCHC, and the West Side Neighborhood Health Center.

MANCHESTER COMMUNITY HEALTH CENTER SHOWS UP IN THE NATIONAL NEWS
|
|
|
A front page story in the Saturday, February 11 New York Times featured quotes from CEO Kris McCracken, Director of Behavioral Health Julie Hazell-Felch, and a patient of MCHC. The article was entitled “Without Health Law, Addicts Could Have the Most to Lose,” and it covered potential negative impacts if the Affordable Care Act is dismantled.

The story highlighted the role of primary care in addressing the opioid crisis with support from the Affordable Care Act and Medicaid expansion. MCHC’s Medication Assisted Treatment (MAT) program for substance use disorder was profiled in the article as well as the dramatic growth in facilities, patients, and employees that has taken place at MCHC since the Affordable Care Act was approved.

The work has begun on our $1 million renovation to the Child Health Services building on Elm Street, home of our pediatric practice. Among other improvements, we are adding four exam rooms so we can care for more of Manchester's children. The renovation will improve work flows, patient experiences, security, and safety. And there will be upgrades to plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
But in order to accomplish all we need to do, more money needs to be raised. The Checkup Challenge is currently underway. Your tax deductible donation can help make the new exam rooms a reality.

The 10th annual Morning Matters Breakfast will gather hundreds of business, education, non-profit, government, medical, and community leaders to network, listen to compelling speakers, and generate revenue to help us continue to improve the health and well-being of area children.
This year's keynote speaker will be Rona Zlokower, Executive Director of Media Power Youth.

MEET THE NEWEST MEMBER OF THE MCHC TEAM OF MEDICAL PROVIDERS
|
|
|
In January MCHC welcomed the newest member of its provider staff, Karen Mather, PA-C. She received a Bachelor of Science Degree at the University of Connecticut and a Master of Physician Assistant Studies at Albany Medical College in New York. She is board certified by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants. Mather will be seeing patients at the 145 Hollis Street location.

Mather likes working in a community health center environment because there is always something exciting going on. "Between working with language interpreters, learning cultural differences in the approach to healthcare, and providing education for patients in the community, I am always being kept on my toes," she says. "No day is ever the same, and that is something I truly enjoy."

|
STORK PROJECT PROVIDES WELCOME BUNDLES
|
|
|
|
|
In the last five years the Stork Project has donated 258 Welcome Bundles to Child Health Services at MCHC for new moms. Each Welcome Bundle contains 10-15 items of clothing, suitable for a boy or girl, along with booties, hats, socks, and bibs. The items are wrapped in a new blanket or quilt that is made especially for the baby by Project Linus or other organizations that knit, quilt and crochet.
Many thanks to Kathi Lewis, the "Head Bird" of the Stork Project, for donating Welcome Bundles as well as strollers, high chairs, holiday outfits, winter coats, and pack and plays.
