A Message from Cheri Gioe:
In the name of Christ we appear to you to be reconciled to God. 2 Corinthians 5:20
Several years ago while observing a religion teacher, I watched a short, four minute video called
“How Do I Go to Confession?”
The video was animated with juvenile caricatures and groovy music, but the message resonated with me and remained with me to this day. The message was this: We are all sinners. Sin happens, but God has given us a wonderful place of healing in the Catholic Church. Within the Church, we receive God’s mercy and forgiveness through reconciliation. Reconciliation begins in our hearts and ends with the satisfaction that we are not only forgiven of our sins, but strengthened to do God’s will, to live and change our lives and return to the world filled with God’s grace.
This week, I had the honor of witnessing our 2nd graders celebrate their First Reconciliation. As a Catholic School Administrator, First Reconciliation has always been one of my favorite celebrations of every school year. The children enter church reverent, pensive, nervous, serious, often reluctant to confess. After confession, their entire demeanor changes, and you can see the light of Christ radiating from them. You can see that they are filled with God’s grace, ready to return to the world, strengthened to do God’s will.
Once pensive, nervous, serious and reluctant to confess, this short video allowed me to embrace confession just like our 2nd graders did last night. Aren’t we lucky that we now have 90 plus people ready to go forth and do God’s will? Are you ready too?
In Christ,
