A Message From Mrs. Gioe
You may have noticed the updated school logo on the recently launched version of the MBS website. In updating the logo, it was important to honor the rich history of MBS, pay tribute to The Most Blessed Sacrament, and celebrate the school’s future. The graphic artists did an exceptional job of creating an image that captures all of these things.
In the logo, note the pelican, which serves as the school’s mascot. The wings of the pelican create the monstrance in which The Most Blessed Sacrament is placed, protected, and displayed during adoration. The bolded strokes represent how we as Catholics radiate the love of Christ when we receive Him during the Eucharist. Lastly, the baby chicks represent the students and the privilege we have to protect and teach them in the Catholic Faith.
As we begin to use the logo as our new brand, it is important that MBS families know how we became the MBS Pelicans. According to legend, in times of famine a mother pelican would pierce her own chest and give her blood to her chicks. Thus, the pelican symbol in Christianity, called pelican-in-her-piety, symbolizes the sacrifice of Christ on the cross (because he gave his blood for others) as well as the Eucharist (because it represents Christ's blood and provides spiritual nourishment).
I remember researching the pelican-in-her-piety symbol. To this day, I find the story moving, intriguing, and a perfect representation for our school. Our logo is truly a reminder of our faith foundation that we want to instill in our students and a vivid illustration of what we want others to know about our faith and our school.
In Christ,
Cheri Gioe

Living Stations of the Cross
Our eighth grade class is preparing to share their faith with our parish and school with the annual presentation of the Living Stations of the Cross. Significant to our Lenten formation, our eighth graders tell the great story of Jesus' passion and death through their tableau presentation.
On Wednesday, April 12 at 7pm in St. Ursula, our students will offer the MBS parish family and their parents the first of three presentations.
Eighth graders will offer two additional presentations on Thursday, April 13 at 9am (for K-4th) and 10:15am (for 5th-7th) to lead our students into the Triduum celebrations of the Church.
As a reminder, parents are asked to note the full day dress rehearsal that will be held at school on Wednesday, April 12. As in past years, we ask that NO appointments be made on this day for the betterment of the performance and readiness of our students. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Our Stations of the Cross will be dedicated to Fr. Mike Collins and deceased parents of our eighth graders.

A Message from Kathy Duplessis:
Many of you may know Tommy Miguez, an MBS parishioner who has dedicated much time to helping our MBS grounds crew, the Men's Club and Knights of Columbus, to name a few. Tommy iis having extensive back surgery and will be down for at least a month. We would like to help Tommy and his family by providing meals while he is recovering.
I know that some of you are still dealing with your homes after the flood, but if you are able to help, the family would really appreciate it. There are three people to serve. Thank you!

Vacation Bible School Announcement
Dear MBS Parish Families,
After much consideration,
the decision has been made to cancel Vacation Bible School for 2017
.
The reasons for this cancellation are the construction that will be taking place this summer on the school campus, as well as the fact that many of our VBS Volunteer Staff and families are still in the process of rebuilding their homes from last year's flooding.
In preparation for VBS in 2018
, a committee will be formed to look at possible new formats that would enhance the VBS experience for our parish families.
If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Christian Formation at
751-5867
.
