A Message From Cheri Gioe
It's Confirmation time in the Diocese of Baton Rouge. Last Saturday I had the privilege and honor to sponsor my niece as she made her Confirmation. My niece is a member of St. Ann Parish. I had agreed to pick her up, as we had to arrive at the church two hours prior to the ceremony. On my way from Baton Rouge to Sorrento, my sister called to see when I was going to arrive. Evidently, my niece was anxious about being on time and being ready to greet the Bishop. As I got to her house, my niece was waiting for me. She quickly hopped into the car and dramatically said, “Nanny, I am freaking out.” I tried to calm her, but to no avail!
As I think back upon Saturday, it warms my heart that she was “freaking out,” full of excitement, reverence, and caution about receiving the Sacrament of Confirmation. She was taking this seriously. Shouldn't all Confirmation candidates feel this way, for they are initiated as full members into the Church and receive gifts of wisdom, understanding, knowledge, counsel, piety, fear of the Lord, and fortitude from the Holy Spirit. According to CatholicCulture.org, Cardinal John Wright refers to the gifts received during Confirmation as “imprinting a sacred character on the soul”.
I also had the privilege to attend our MBS Parish Confirmation. As we celebrate these 11th grader's Confirmation and their receipt of the gifts of the Holy Spirit, let us pray for the sacredness of their character, as they are now full members and leaders in our Church.
In Christ,
Cheri Gioe

A group of young college students learned of recent scientific studies that show how pornography affects the brain and has negative neurological effects on individuals. The influence of pornography causes problems in relationships, tears families apart, and is linked to sexual exploitation and human trafficking.

A Letter From Josh Galasso, Advancement Director/ Head Wrestling Coach at SMHS
Mrs. Gioe,
I was blessed with the opportunity to coach several Most Blessed Sacrament alumni in wrestling this year (Nathan Zeringue, Beau Blackmon, Lukas Kim, Dane Harter, Alec Hodges & Brent Bravata) and really enjoyed having each of these wonderful young men on my team.
I have attached a photo of MBS alumnus Dane Harter wrestling at the LHSAA State Wrestling Tournament this weekend. Dane finished 2nd in the 170lb weight class at the 2017 LHSAA State Wrestling Championship, and placed 2nd at the Baton Rouge City Wrestling Tournament.
Lukas Kim placed 4th at the Baton Rouge City Wrestling Tournament.
Beau Blackmon placed 2nd at the Baton Rouge JV City Wrestling Tournament.
Thanks!

Garden Stations -
A Letter From David Planche
Dear Parents,
The long-awaited permanent Garden Stations have been placed in the school courtyard for the opening of Lent. The Stations are uniquely designed for MBS and are the collaboration of several important people. MBS Graduate
Michael deGraauw
sought out a possible Eagle Scout project and from his simple request came a labor of love made possible by many people.
Debbie Luke
is a local sculptor who has done sacred sculptures all around the country. She was asked to do the original renderings for the bronze relief sculptures. When the designs were accepted, she and her husband
Barry Luke
set out to construct the designs from paper rendering to bronze sculptures. Thus ,the project to replace our old annual crosses used in the garden for Lent morphed into a lovely way to again speak of our Catholicity on our school campus.
Darrell Jones
, a former school parent, helped us select the wood for the crosses, which are made from Spanish cedar, the same wood used in construction of the main doors to MBS Church. Darrell supervised Michael and the
Scouts from Troop 888
in building and installing the crosses.
MBS Maintenance Supervisor
Dennis Bourgeois
designed and created the in-ground fleur-de-lis iron supports for the crosses and was present when the stations were installed.
Funding for the project came from our Parish budget, the generosity of our
Home and School Association, Mr. Henry Grace, the deGraauw family, and class gifts from our 2016 and 2017 8th grade classes.
Future class gifts will support the maintenance and upkeep on the Stations to insure they are preserved for years to come.
Presently there are fourteen stations. There is one additional station to be completed: the Fifteenth Station entitled
The Resurrection.
Station 15 will be dedicated to our deceased former MBS students and PSR young people who walked these grounds and now share new life in heaven with our Father. Station 15 will not be installed until the courtyard is renovated over the summer.
We thank the deGraauw family and Michael for their willingness to work with MBS to make this project possible. There is much gratitude to express to all those who made it financially possible and were involved in the design and implementation.
We invite our families to come see these beautiful sacred art pieces that add to the identity of our school as a Catholic School.

Cell Phones
According to the MBS Handbook, student cell phones are not allowed on the school campus during the school day. The school day is considered anytime your child is on campus. This includes aftercare and athletic practices. As a courtesy, students have been allowed to turn phones into the office in the morning and pick them up after school. This practice has gotten out of hand, so as of today, Mrs. Lee will no longer accept cell phones. If students need to contact you, they will be allowed to use the school phone. If you should need to get your child a message, please call the school office. Students found with a cell phone at school will receive a discipline consequence.
