How many of you have an “Elf on the Shelf?” I have seen “Buddy” the elf do lots of things and get into a lot of mischief. I have seen “Buddy” in a snowball fight - throwing mini marshmallows at “friends”, frozen in a block of ice by Elsa, making snow angels in a pile of rice, fishing in the toilet, toilet papering a stairway, drawing mustaches on family photos, taking a bubble bath in mini marshmallows and reading books to his “friends” just to name a few. I must admit that my favorite “Buddy” event was when he found baby Jesus in the stable and knelt over Him to pray.
The “Elf on the Shelf” is a lot of fun and people have made him commit some very creative pranks. I see “Buddy” as a very clever way of anticipating and remembering - a time of waiting, as we count down the days to Christmas and the birthday of our Savior.
Let us remember to keep Christ the center of Advent and Christmas where He will be born into our lives over and over again.
In Christ,
Cheri Gioe

2017 Missionaries of Charity Project - December 4-11
A young couple, their first child due to arrive any day, is travelling far from home, unable to find shelter...until a kind stranger gives them help…
In that same spirit of giving, St. Teresa of Calcutta came to Baton Rouge in 1985 to establish her community of Sisters, the Missionaries of Charity, responding to Christ’s plea that they make Him known to the poorest of the poor by their humble service of love. By the generous gift of their lives, they care for those who, like the Holy Family at that first Christmas, are homeless in our city.
Our 2nd Graders are leading us in providing a monetary Christmas gift for the Missionaries of Charity to support the shelter. We are requesting a $2.00 donation from each student and we encourage families to allow their children to earn this money so it may truly be a gift from them. They are doing God’s work through their generosity, by giving joy to those in need during this blessed season.
The collection will taken up be from
Monday, December 4 to Monday, December 11
.

From the Office of Child Protection:
Important Notification:
Our Child Protection site supervisor, Ms. Beverly Peterson, will be out of the office for an extended period of time for a series of medical treatments. We have a certified volunteer who met with the Diocese and will be available for a few hours each week. Processing time of child protection applications will be affected. As such, if you are planning to volunteer, please pick up your packet at least a month before your volunteer event will occur. Packets may be picked up in the Office of Christian Formation from 8:30-2:30 Monday-Thursday. Please pray fro a quick recovery for Ms. Peterson. We thank you in advance for your patience.
Parents,
I
n order to volunteer at MBS School, the school child protection process must be completed. This includes four parts-a completed volunteer application, certificate of completion of online training, signatory page from the Code of Ethics, and a fingerprint background check.
Please note that if you have been deemed compliant with the Parish for scouts, sports (grades K-4), etc. you are
NOT
compliant with the school child protection process until you have completed the fingerprint background check. The fingerprint background check is an extra step required to volunteer in a school. The paperwork for the fingerprint background check is available through my office.
If you have any questions concerning your compliance, please contact Beverly Peterson at
[email protected]
or at
225-753-5526
. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
Parents, please do not go to the state police to be fingerprinted without the necessary paperwork to have the proper background check run.
Beverly Peterson
