“For you formed my inward parts; you knitted me together in my mother's womb. I praise you, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made. Wonderful are your works; my soul knows it very well. My frame was not hidden from you, when I was being made in secret, intricately woven in the depths of the earth. Your eyes saw my unformed substance; in your book were written, every one of them, the days that were formed for me, when as yet there was none of them.
”
Psalm 139:13-16
This week my youngest child turned 15. How could that be? It seems like just yesterday I was gently holding him in my arms for the very first time thanking God for this “wonderfully made” person He had loaned to me to nurture and love, and at the same time I was thinking, “What am I getting myself into?”
I am sure every one of you have felt this same way. Being a Catholic parent is one of the most awe-inspiring, rewarding, difficult and important jobs we will ever have. As stewards of our children and their Catholicity, we are charged to raise them for others and ultimately for them to return to our heavenly father. Our children do not come with instructions, so below are some tips for raising our children in our Catholic faith (Adapted from Growing Kids Spiritually Blog.)
1. Create a circle of support - Surround yourself with and reach out to people on the same Catholic journey. There is strength in numbers.
2. Go to Mass as a family.
3.
Lean on Our Lady for Help - She understands the trials we face as parents and the anxieties of raising a child. Try to follow her model for being a wife and mother, and following God’s plan.
4.
Go to confession as a family.
5.
Watch what you do and say - Be an example.
7.
Make Your Priest a Part of Your Family – invite them to dinner, show your children you have a relationship with them, keep them in your prayers.
8.
Explore Your Church with Your Children - Make a point to get to Mass early one day, or stay over later. Touch the Holy Water, smell the incense, light a candle, and listen to the music or silence of church. Show them the different parts of the altar and sanctuary and the statues and symbols which are part of our religion.
9.
Pray with Your Children – Pray before meals, a
family rosary
, pray for sick friends and family, or pray at bedtime.
In Christ,
Cheri Gioe

From the Office of Child Protection:
Important Notification:
Our Child Protection site supervisor, Ms. Beverly Peterson, will be out of the office for an extended period of time for a series of medical treatments. We have a certified volunteer who met with the Diocese and will be available for a few hours each week. Processing time of child protection applications will be affected. As such, if you are planning to volunteer, please pick up your packet at least a month before your volunteer event will occur. Packets may be picked up in the Office of Christian Formation from 8:30-2:30 Monday-Thursday. Please pray for a quick recovery for Ms. Peterson. We thank you in advance for your patience.
Parents,
I
n order to volunteer at MBS School, the school child protection process must be completed. This includes four parts-a completed volunteer application, certificate of completion of online training, signatory page from the Code of Ethics, and a fingerprint background check.
Please note that if you have been deemed compliant with the Parish for scouts, sports (grades K-4), etc. you are
NOT
compliant with the school child protection process until you have completed the fingerprint background check. The fingerprint background check is an extra step required to volunteer in a school. The paperwork for the fingerprint background check is available through my office.
If you have any questions concerning your compliance, please contact Beverly Peterson at
[email protected]
or at
225-753-5526
. Thank you for your cooperation with this matter.
Parents, please do not go to the state police to be fingerprinted without the necessary paperwork to have the proper background check run.
Beverly Peterson

Volunteers Needed for Vacation Bible School
MBS Vacation Bible School is scheduled for the mornings of June 25 to 29 and is in the planning stages. Before MBS can open registration and assure the parish that we meet Diocese of Baton Rouge Child Protection requirements and mandated supervision ratios, MBS needs a group of ADULT volunteers (over 21 years of age). All adults must be background checked, trained, and accepted for MBS to begin the children’s registration process. Adults who are current in the Child Protection process do not need to go through the process again.
TEEN volunteers will also be needed and additional information regarding teen help will be sent out later. Teens do not need to contact MBS at this time. Watch the Bulletin for information on Teen volunteering.
To sign up as a VBS ADULT helper...please call Judy Carr (in the evenings) at
(225) 335-6563
.
Come join us in this half-day of fun and faith for young children of our parish.
