A Message From Mrs. Gioe
My daughter will graduate from St. Joseph’s Academy in May. One of the many things that I have enjoyed about her time at St. Joseph’s Academy is learning about the Maxims of Perfection (Maxims). The Maxims were selected by Father Jean Pierre Medaille, one of the founders of the Sisters of St. Joseph as a way to illustrate the spirit of their order and assist them in seeking closer union with God.
During my daughter’s freshman year, I received an email from SJA every Monday called Maxim Monday. Each email contained one of the 100 maxims of the Sisters of St. Joseph and quickly became a source of reflection for me.
Now, when things seem unclear and I am unsure of how to proceed, I will refer to the Maxims and more often than not, they offer me direction. One of the maxims that has had a profound impact on me is
Maxim 52 -
Interpret all things from the best possible point of view. I have found that looking at things from the “glass half full” perspective has been a source of positivity for me and keeps me from overreacting. It allows me to practice patience and brings me peace.
For example, last Friday was a hectic day for me. At 7pm I found myself sitting in the SJA parking lot with a flat tire. I was tired and hungry and I wanted to be home. Rather than getting angry or upset, the following thoughts entered my mind:
- “I was just on the interstate. Thank you, Lord for letting me be in this safe parking lot.”
- “Ugh, I have to change a tire!” No sooner had I realized that, two gentlemen approached me and insisted on changing my tire. “Thank you, Lord for having someone here to help me.”
- I didn’t have anywhere that I had to be.
- I had dinner in hand.
- I was in a safe place.
- I also ended up meeting some new people and learned that one of them is my neighbor.
That was one single incident, but what if we made it a habit to interpret all things from the best possible point of view? What kind of difference would that make in your life? I can tell you that it has been life-changing for mine.
In Christ,
Cheri Gioe

Living Stations of the Cross-April 12-13
Our eighth grade class is preparing to share their faith with our parish and school with the annual presentation of the Living Stations of the Cross. Significant to our Lenten formation, our eighth graders tell the great story of Jesus' passion and death through their tableau presentation.
On Wednesday, April 12 at 7pm in St. Ursula, our students will offer the MBS parish family and their parents the first of three presentations.
Eighth graders will offer two additional presentations on Thursday, April 13 at 9am (for K-4th) and 10:15am (for 5th-7th) to lead our students into the Triduum celebrations of the Church.
As a reminder, parents are asked to note the full day dress rehearsal that will be held at school on Wednesday, April 12. As in past years, we ask that NO appointments be made on this day for the betterment of the performance and readiness of our students. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Our Stations of the Cross will be dedicated to Fr. Mike Collins and deceased parents of our eighth graders.

Vacation Bible School Announcement
Dear MBS Parish Families,
After much consideration,
the decision has been made to cancel Vacation Bible School for 2017
.
The reasons for this cancellation are the construction that will be taking place this summer on the school campus, as well as the fact that many of our VBS Volunteer Staff and families are still in the process of rebuilding their homes from last year's flooding.
In preparation for VBS in 2018
, a committee will be formed to look at possible new formats that would enhance the VBS experience for our parish families.
If you have any questions, please contact the Office of Christian Formation at
751-5867
.
