YWCA METROPOLITAN CHICAGO CELEBRATES WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY
Friday, August 26, 2016 commemorated Women's Equality Day, the 96th anniversary of women in the United States being granted the right to vote. To celebrate the progress made towards women's equality, but to also spark conversation around what needs to be done, YWCA Metropolitan Chicago (
Dorri McWhorter) planned a number of Women's Equality Day activities throughout the week including media appearances on
WGN TV and
Windy City Live, a CTA takeover promoting the YWCA's "Without the W" marketing campaign developed by VSA Partners, and an Uber driver recruitment effort where Dorri
took the wheel, literally, for the YWCA.
The YWCA also convened professional women and men from many of Chicago's north suburban companies for a Women's Leadership Forum at Baxter (
Jeanne Mason and
Jill Schaaf), where featured speakers included business leaders
Cheryl Francis and
Renetta McCann.
Dorri also delivered the keynote address as part of the Congressional Caucus on Black Women and Girls Symposium, hosted by congresswoman
Robin Kelly. For more information on how to take action on Women's Equality visit
