ILANA DIAMOND ROVNER NAMED "GREAT IMMIGRANT" BY THE CARNEGIE FOUNDATION 

Ilana D. Rovner (1980) , U.S. Circuit Judge, U.S. Court of Appeals, 7th Circuit, was featured on the Carnegie Foundation's list of "Great Immigrants," published in The New York Times on July 4th. Founded by Irish immigrant Andrew Carnegie, the Carnegie Corporation of New York is committed to helping immigrants become integrated into the civic fabric of our nation because enlightened citizenship is the everlasting strength of our democracy. VICKI ESCARRA ANNOUNCES 1.8 MILLION DOLLAR PARTNERSHIP   

Vicki Escarra (2009), global CEO of Opportunity International, published an op-ed in The Huffington Post to announce Opportunity International's $1.8-million partnership with MetLife Foundation to create jobs and transform lives in China.

"A recent survey found that 87 million women, children and other family members are left behind in rural areas of China by migrant workers who must leave home to find work," Vicki Escarra says. "Keeping families together is one of many reasons why it's so important to promote businesses in rural China. A thriving business environment reduces poverty and creates jobs in the community so no one is forced to leave home to find work." Read more...

COMED SPONSORS ENGINEERING COMPETITION FOR HIGH SCHOOL GIRLS 

Anne Pramaggiore (2008), ComEd CEO, was quoted in a Chicago Tribune article about ComEd's August 15th Icebox Derby, a contest in which competitors turn old refrigerators into race cars. The goal of this competition is to introduce more girls to the fields of science, technology, engineering and mathematics, as well as guide them on possible career paths they may have never envisioned. Each girl participating in the race receives a $1,000 scholarship from ComEd, as well as a gentle push towards a career in science or engineering.

"If we can get our kids interested in these fields, hopefully we can hire them in 10 years," Anne Pramaggiore said. "For a lot of the kids, math is a classroom subject, but when you can actually apply it with your hands, it's great." Read more...

Downtown Partners Chicago, an enterprising ad agency that has created a high-energy new TV, radio and out-of-home campaign for the Adler Planetarium (Michelle Larson (2013)), distills the Planetarium's allure into one succinct theme - "Space is freaking awesome." THE CHINESE AMERICAN SERVICE LEAGUE'S JUNE GALA 
The night after the Cyrus Tang Hall of China opened at the Field Museum of Natural History, CASL (Bernie Wong (1995)) hosted its annual dinner gala on June 25 to celebrate. This week, Splash reported that more than 700 guests toured the exhibit during the event, where they enjoyed cultural traditions like acoustic Chinese music and a Lion Dance and Asian-fusion cuisine. Notable attendees included Mayor Rahm Emanuel and Cook County State's Attorney Anita Alvarez (2012).  Read more...
LISA JOHNSON ON THE PLASTICS MARKET  

The plastics market has bounced back from the recession and is well-positioned for future growth, according to Lisa Johnson (2011), EVP, Division Manager, Wells Fargo Bank, N.A. and speaker at the 2015 Plastics Financial Summit in Chicago on June 3.  As a result, Lisa said levels of working capital at plastics processing firms are expected to increase as the price evaluations of those companies increase as well. Jan Berger (2011), President & CEO, Health Intelligence Partners, has recently joined the Board of Directors of Qliance, a new model of primary care in the Washington State area. This spring, she also began teaching a Masters level course on Healthcare Consumer Engagement. The course is part of the inaugural year for the Masters program in Healthcare Communication within Northwestern's School of Communication.

ANNE LADKY APPOINTED CO-CHAIR OF THE CITY OF CHICAGO'S WORKING FAMILIES TASK FORCE 
Anne Ladky (1998), Women Employed's Executive Director, has been appointed co-chair of the City of Chicago's Working Families Task Force along with Alderman Ameya Pawar of the 47 th Ward. Mayor Emanuel created this task force to make recommendations to his administration and the City Council on issues including paid sick time, unstable scheduling practices, paid parental leave, and other supports for working families. The task force consists of business owners and senior HR executives, employee advocates, aldermen, state legislators, and several business lobbying groups. The group's recommendations will be submitted to the Mayor this fall.  K. Sujata (2011), President and CEO of the Chicago Foundation for Women, is also a task force member.
