The San Diego CITD, in collaboration with the  Port of Los AngelesPort of San DiegoU.S. Small Business Administration San Diego District OfficeU.S. Commercial ServiceSan Diego & Imperial District Export Council, and the  World Trade Center San Diego, launched a series of workshops geared toward helping companies optimize their export potential and grow globally. The series, called  Export University, will feature one three-hour workshop per month on important topics related to finding customers in foreign markets and successfully conducting export transactions. The first session of the series, titled "Is Exporting for Me?", was held on March 15th at Southwestern College's Higher Education Center in National City and provided an overview of the export process, potential benefits, costs, and risks, and resources available to help companies develop export markets.

Networking Event Provides Students with Opportunity to Learn from Supply Chain Management Professionals
The Council of Supply Chain Management Professionals (CSCMP) San Diego/Baja Roundtable hosted an innovative networking event for students and young professionals interested in careers in the supply chain management field. CSCMP is the leading worldwide professional association dedicated to education, research, and the advancement of the supply chain management profession. The event, titled "The Power of Networking", was held at ViaSat headquarters in Carlsbad and combined the concepts of networking and speed dating. The event venue was set up with multiple tables, each featuring a supply chain management professional from various well-known local companies, including Bumble Bee, DJO Global, Waxie Sanitary Supply, ViaSat, Taylor Guitar, Stone Brewing, Dexcom, and TaylorMade. 
San Diego CITD Participates in CBP's Small Business Industry Trade Day

The U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP) Office of Technology, Innovation and Acquisition, in conjunction with the CBP's Office of Trade Relations hosted an event geared toward providing information on the trade process and related regulations to businesses looking to import/export goods and services. The event, called " Small Business Industry Trade Day ", featured panel discussions moderated by the CBP's Acting Director of the Office of Trade Relations, Valerie M. Neuhart.


This professional development opportunity, hosted in collaboration by the San Diego County Office of Education, San Diego and Imperial Counties Regional Pathways Program, San Diego County College and Career Readiness Consortium, San Diego CITD, Deputy Sector Navigator for Global Trade and Logistics, and the Deputy Sector Navigator for Advanced Manufacturing, is open to k-12 teachers and community college faculty interested in better understanding manufacturing in the local region, and looking up ways to bring these concepts to their courses.

Participants in this event will visit the MEXPORT trade show and take a tour of a local packaging manufacturer.

Qualifying your goods as Made in America can create opportunities to increase market share. This 2-day course will provide attendees with everything they need to qualify goods for multiple government programs including Made in America, Buy America, and Buy American, to name a few. This includes information on the requirements at the state and federal levels and how to qualify your products for equal consideration for government procurement under international trade agreements.

San Diego and Yokohama are two cities on the cutting edge of biotech and life sciences - both home to notable companies and research institutions like the Salk Institute and Yokohama City University. As part of the 60th anniversary of the sister city affiliation, the City of Yokohama, Biocom and World Trade Center San Diego will jointly host a seminar to promote collaboration, exchange industry knowledge and strengthen the connections between two of the world's premier bio clusters.

The San Diego Workforce Partnership (SDWP), in collaboration with the California Community Colleges' Centers of Excellence, and our office-the San Diego CITD-is conducting a study of jobs in global trade, supply chain management, and logistics in San Diego. The study will analyze the employment and training needs of San Diego companies engaged in these sectors and help identify related occupations. 

The survey is being conducted using an online survey tool and expected to take approximately 15 minutes to complete. If you are an employer engaged in global trade, supply chain management, and logistics activities as part of your business operations, please take a moment to complete this important survey.

California STEP, in cooperation with the  U.S. Commercial Service and the  Yue Hwa Chinese Products Emporium Ltd. department store in Hong Kong is providing an opportunity for U.S. companies to submit their products for evaluation and potential inclusion in an "in-store" retail promotion in Hong Kong in May 2017.
 
"California Corner" is both a retail promotion and a test-market program for introducing California brands into the Hong Kong and South China marketplace.
