A Message from Cheri Gioe:
Last Saturday, many of the MBS faculty and staff gathered together for a religion workshop, led by David Planche. The workshop topic was, Michelangelo - a Pivotal Player. We watched a wonderful movie that paralleled Michelangelo’s life during the Renaissance.
While Michelangelo is famous for many of his works of art, one would say he is most known for his painting of the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. Interestingly enough, we learned that he despised painting and preferred sculpting, hence another of his famous works the Pieta. His work on the Sistine Chapel was commissioned by Pope Julius II. This work caused quite a bit of conflict between Michaelangelo and Pope Julius but also within the very Catholic Michaelangelo. Not wanting to disobey the Pope’s commission or deny God’s plan for him, Michaelangelo forced himself to complete the work on the Sistine Chapel.
As Catholics we are often conflicted but have been commissioned by God to follow His plan for us and complete His work. This only happens when we put our trust in Him. Below are the lyrics to the song
Abba Father
which always reminds us that part of God’s plan is to mold us so that we can mold others.
Abba O Abba Father
You are the potter
And we are the clay,
The work of your hands
Mold us mold us and
Fashion us,
Into the image,
Of Jesus your Son
Of Jesus your Son.
Father, may we be one in you,
May we be one in you,
As he is in you,
And you are in him
Glory, glory and praise to thee
Glory and praise to thee
Forever Amen.
Just think, what if Michaelangelo would have ignored the Pope’s commission and God’s plan? We would never be able to share in the beauty of his artistry. How has God molded you and how have you molded others?
In Christ,

From Home & School:
2016 Fall PALS is coming up on November 4th!
PALS (Parents Appreciation Luncheon Service) is a themed lunch event put on by parents for all of MBS faculty and staff. We decorate St. Ursula, create a menu, and serve the staff, while taking care of their students so they can enjoy a relaxing lunch!
This fall, the theme is Louisiana Proud! Our city, parish and faculty have all been affected by the flooding this year. Louisianaians are always pulling together to help one another, especially throughout these hard times. We want to show our Louisiana pride this year by celebrating our heritage here in South LA and give thanks to our teachers for all they do for us. Our menu will consist of Louisiana cuisine and yummy rich desserts.
All donations to this event, whether it is food, decorations, or time, will count towards your service hours. There will be plenty of time to help decorate, serve the teachers and clean up. Any amount of time you can spare will be greatly appreciated. A sign-up genius will be sent out very soon so you can sign up.
Thank you,
PALS Committee

From the Guidance Counselor:
Dear Families Affected by the Flood,
First of all, I want to express my sympathies for your losses and struggles. Know that you have been, and will continue to be, in my prayers.
Secondly, I have met with many of your children one-on-one in the past weeks to "check in" on how they have been coping with the stress of this traumatic event. Now that some of the shock has subsided, I think it may be beneficial to offer a support group for them. At this time, I don't have all of the details of the group(s), as I'm looking to gauge interest first.
Please click the following link for a very brief survey that will help me arrange this service for the students. The deadline to complete the survey is
October 7
. Thank you.
Blessings,
Michelle DiBenedetto, LCSW
School Counselor
