What's in a Student Safety Plan?

Health _ Safety - make it happen
A Student Safety Plan is developed for a student whose high-risk behaviours--including violence--pose an ongoing risk of physical injury to self or others at school. It is based on the findings of a risk assessment.

The Safety Plan includes information such as a description of the high risk behaviours, including violence; preventative and protective strategies; getting immediate assistance; crisis response; first aid; emergency procedures; and reporting requirements.

The Safety Plan is reviewed and revised as often as necessary to control the risks of harm. If you believe that a safety plan is needed, or that it's time to revise the current version, then make a request to your principal.

What else can you do? Get advice and support from your ETFO local. Review PRS Matters Bulletin #80, The Student Safety Plan. And check out http://etfohealthandsafety.ca for more information.
