Greetings!
LAUGH-A-LATTE CELEBRATES 3 YEARS!!

Laugh-A-Latte
celebrated its 3rd anniversary at the Hot Java Coffeehouse in Long
Beach, CA on January 16th, 2010. Pictured above is the cake with a
photo of last year's cake on it. It's a cake within a cake on a
cake. Ken and Sergio (owners of Hot Java) are even wearing the same
color shirts. Let's see how long we can keep that traditional
going.
Hot Java owners and
baristas, Ripples owner John, and the bakery went all out for this
momentous occasion. The place was packed and we had a star studded
line-up of comics. You're always guaranteed a full of evening of
fun at Laugh-A-Latte.
The show takes place
every third Saturday of the month and includes first-time comics as
well as stand-up veterans from LOGO and Comedy Central. An always
versatile gourmet blend of comedians perform to standing room only
audiences for the price of a cup of coffee, a pastry or a sandwich.
Laugh-A-Latte is produced and hosted by Carlease! a comic and an
actress seen in commercials, TV shows and films such as The
Terminal and In Her Shoes. She travels and hosts on
Olivia Cruises as well as Pride Festivals all over the
country.
Ken and Sergio say the locals look forward to
the monthly comedy show and have started arriving an hour early to
get a seat.
Come on down and LAUGH-A-LATTE on August 21, 2010.

Dear Stage Mom,
I'm here on the west coast pursuing my career as an actress and
filmmaker but I'm not yet where I want to be in my career. I've
never been to New York but I've been thinking about giving it a
shot. I know that's your home town so, do you think I will get more
work there?
~Packing My Bags
Dear
Packing,
Whatever
you do, travel light! New York has a huge population and operates
at a very fast pace. The people tend to be abrupt and are often
times accused of being rude. It's going to be a culture shock right
off the bat. Friends of mine who have gone either love it or
hate...no in between.
As
for work, it's hard to say. One of the things I remember back in
the day, was that an actor could work with several agents at one
time unlike LA where we have to sign exclusive contracts. That may
have changed, but I do know that it is still a theatre town. Just
recently, when I was considering moving back there to be closer to
my mother, an agent told me that they could represent me for
regional theatre so that I could build up my theatre resume to
compete with the core group of actresses in my category working in
New York and on Broadway. The fact that I have been in Hollywood
for the past 25 years "building up" my TV and film resume didn't
seem to be important to them. So I may not be packing MY
bags.
If
you have a good friend or family member in New York, see if you can
stay with them for an extended visit. Get use to the town, take
some auditions, meet with agents and see what happens. What have
you got to lose?
BE A STAR WHERE YOU ARE!
Email your
questions about acting, comedy, solo show production or any aspect
of show business to bitsnpieces@verizon.netand I'll answer
them in the next months's Ask Stage Mom.
