Shop Small Saturday - Saturday, November 30
Please plan to visit the Tasting Room on Saturday, November 30, the 2013 "Shop Small Saturday".   You've heard of Black Friday (the day after Thanksgiving) and Cyber Monday (the Monday after Thanksgiving)? Well, Shop Small Saturday is the Saturday after Thanksgiving and is a day to focus on small, local retailers as an alternative to national chains for your holiday and personal shopping.  We will be participating in this event by offering cheese plates or cheese and sausage plates with a sweet ending for $5.00. You can pair these either with a tasting or a glass of wine, both at their normal prices. This will make a great respite from the shopping crowds or a fun activity to do with holiday guests.
Wine Special:  Riesling

Thanksgiving is right around the corner, and a great wine to pair with your holiday turkey or Cornish Hen is Riesling.   Regularly priced at $12.95, during November you can purchase it for a mere $9.95!  Michigan is becoming known for great Riesling wines and our Lawton Ridge Riesling is semi-dry, bright and fruity with great varietal character.  Stop by the Tasting Room to stock up today!

New in the Tasting Room

We like to support Michigan-made products in our Tasting Room and strive to bring you the best of the best.   Joining our offerings this month is Hannar's Apiaries Honey.  The Hannars have about 1,900 beehives in Southwest Michigan.  Did you know that, among other health benefits, eating local honey has been shown to help with seasonal allergies?  Honey is also wonderful to serve with hard Italian cheeses and Pinot Grigio.  Try some for yourself:  choose from a 3 lb jar, 1 lb jar, and honey bears.

Winemaker's Corner: Vineyard Update

Our harvest came to a close on October 24 as Carlos and his crew picked the last of the Chambourcin grapes while it snowed. The question of the season is always, "How were the grapes?" This year the answer is, very good! A cool year with plenty of moisture gave us a large crop with a good balance between acids and sugars. The Chardonnay, Pinot Gris and Riesling are exceptional in their quality and we are working our way through the wine making process in hopes of being able to bottle in the beginning weeks of February. Most of our red grapes have finished fermentation with only the Merlot and Chambourcin to finish, and that should be done by the 5th of November. We are hopeful that we are on our way to another good vintage.
