This edition of the GoodNews Link features many articles highlighting economic growth in our regional area. The River Bridge District in East St. Louis broke ground on an $8.1 million Front Street reconstruction project designed to generate new economic development activities along the riverfront area. The funding for this project was generated from a collaborative effort consisting of the U.S. E.D.A. contributed $3.5 million, the Southwest Illinois Development Authority $1.5 million, the Illinois Department of Transportation $125,000, the St. Clair County Transit District $900,000, and the Metro East Park and Recreation District $500,000. Additionally, $1.5M also generated from Cargill, Bunge-SCF, and Casino Queen for this critical project.

Further investments can be seen with Illinois American Water contributing approximately $245M to the overall state economy according to the University of Illinois' Regional Economic Applications Laboratory. Over 1,000 students were provided the opportunity to interact with hand-on demonstrations and equipment displays in construction trades at the Metro Construction Expo. With thousands of skilled construction trade workers retiring in the next decade, this experience is critical in exposing students and other interested candidates to sustainable career options . The Metro Construction Expo is sponsored by SIBA and SICAP.

Also, Scott Air Force Base is celebrating it's 100th Centennial in 2017 by featuring the Air Force Thunderbirds and other prominent acts in the June Air Show. For this event to be successful, it is important to raise enough funding to support this event. If you or your company would like to contribute to this effort, please see the Scott AFB Web site or by calling the Leadership Council office. Your contribution to this effort would be greatly appreciated and valued. If you have any questions, please let us know.
Please read on to learn more about all of the important efforts underway to unite our region for growth!
