ARTICLE OF THE MONTH: Tracy Knofla's Thriving Tip "The Business of Busy-ness"

"I'm so busy!"
"Well, if you think YOU are busy, you should see MY schedule!"
This conversation occurs with alarming frequency. Everyone tells me they're too busy to do the things they want to do. It makes no difference if we're talking about work life or personal life. Too many people are in the business of busy-ness!

I think busy-ness has become a great excuse. Don't want to work out? Just tell people you're too busy. Too tired to meet friends after work? Tell them you're too busy. Not able to think of a new idea at work, tell 'em you're too busy. We've conveniently created the perfect excuse to justify nearly everything, because people always believe you. They will give you a knowing nod and say, "I feel ya!" when you say those three words.

I want to start a revolution!

BOOK REVIEW:  StrengthsFinder 2.0 from Gallup by Tom Rath

Last December, the T2 Center gathered for our yearly staff planning retreat. At the retreat we were all given a copy of StrengthsFinder 2.0 by Tom Rath, whose inside cover asks "Do you have the opportunity to do what you do best every day?"

This thin, 183-page career book includes an access code for the online Clifton StrengthFinder 2.0 assessment test. The online assessment, which takes only 30 minutes to complete, generates a personalized profile of your top five talents. Not only does the assessment describe your talents, but it provides a customized action plan based on the results.

Once you have your test results, you use the book to read about your five talents and compare your results to the other 29 talents. This book makes it easy to understand not only your own, but also others' talents. Readers should come to the book with an open mind.
2017 Northeast Transportation Safety Conference

Conferences provide a unique learning environment that is hard to duplicate. While a great deal of information can be found on the web, nothing compares to in-person training and education.

The 2017 Northeast Transportation Conference's theme this year is: Road Safety Matters - Tech, Trends & Tomorrow. The conference will be held on October 24 & 25, 2017, in Cromwell, CT.

This is an opportunity to discuss current trends and the future of all aspects of traffic safety. This innovative conference will bring together engineering, education and highway safety specialists from all over the Northeast to focus on our common goal: the reduction of fatalities and injuries on our roadways.

Having employees attend conferences is a long-term investment. For employees, it influences their attitudes towards their jobs as well as their employers. Conferences are often inspiring, insightful, and even necessary to be effective in today's vigorous work environment.

"In most cases being a good boss means hiring talented people and then getting out of their way."
- Tina Fey
