Leadership may be defined as the ability to influence; such influence may be upon the actions, thoughts, and ideas of those around us. Providing authentic and meaningful leadership is an even greater responsibility. Leading with thoughtful purpose is a responsibility that one can hope to acquire in life, and Stanly County Chamber of Commerce (SCCoC) Leadership Stanly offers an opportunity to cultivate your personal and professional leadership skills.
What is Leadership Stanly (LS)? It is a comprehensive program designed to locate, cultivate, & motivate a core of informed, committed, & qualified individuals from diverse backgrounds to take an active role in community affairs. With some 600 LS Alumni having completed the program, I can attest that the SCCoC Leadership Stanly Program is actively at work in our local community and region.
Our Leadership Stanly Program recently graduated its 30

Class of community leaders here in Stanly County. SCCoC remains a leader in our community with this longstanding flagship program, which is lead by graduates of LS who facilitate the monthly curriculum. This LS Steering Committee is led by Shawn Oke, EFO, Fire Chief, City of Albemarle. The Steering Committee members are dedicated to making each session meaningful and informative.
The overall objective of the SCCoC LS Program is to demonstrate the economic impact to Stanly County from what is discussed in each session. Monthly sessions focus on a variety of topics including: History; Manufacturing/Industry/Business; Health Care & Human Services; Government/Public Service; Education; Justice System; Agri-Business; Air/Land/Water. From natural to human resources, Leadership Stanly provides participants with knowledge and skills to be informed and thoughtful leaders.
As we work together to sustain an active and vibrant community, it is those willing to lead and be a part of community action who can make a thoughtful difference. Take it upon yourself to be a part of collaborative leadership and continually grow your network of influence. Be a leader and a part of the vision you wish to see for the future.
