OfficersbLogWFPC Officers' Column
Hanging in our house, we have one of my favorite quotes hanging that Heather and I made at one of those artsy places (okay, she did most of the work). Most of you who are over the age of 30 will know it immediately. It goes like this; "Life moves pretty fast. If you don't stop and look around once in a while, you could miss it." I won't spoil it for the younger generation. If you want to know who said it, go watch the movie. The reason I love it is that it reminds me to just stop. Stop trying to finish the to do list, stop rushing through dinner and stop starting a new project just as soon as the last one is completed (or 95% complete in most of my cases). It's very easy to get stuck "in the fast lane" and not notice all the incredible things going on around you, like the laughter of a child, the song of a bird or even the pounding of a hammer that is completing the lead-up work to Walk Thru Bethlehem (shameless plug I know). So "stop and look around once and a while;" you don't want to miss what God is doing right under your nose.

Prayer:
Dear Heavenly Father, you are always amongst us. Please help us to stop, open our eyes and ears, and look for the heavenly things you are doing in our midst.

commitmentIs Your 2018 Pledge Turned In??
Remember, church family... we have a calling from our Lord to share and provide the Light of Christ in this broken world. As a church we have work to do. Support the overall ministry and mission of WFPC. If you haven't turned in your pledge card, please do so as soon as you are able. Extra pledge cards are available in the narthex and in the CLC.

9:30 AM - 4:30 PM on Saturday, November 11
Lowe's Foods, Capital Blvd

Wake Forest Presbyterian Church, in conjunction with Lowes Foods, is planning a community wide donation drive. We are seeking donations for care packages that we will send to deployed military soldiers.

Lowe's will have an area as customers enter the store where care package contents will be available for purchase. Shoppers can select any of these items to be paid for with their regular shopping and place them in our baskets as they exit the store. There will be a donation jar on our table for those wishing to make cash or check donations.

We all value the sacrifices these men & women make protecting our freedom and way of life. These packages are meant to be an encouragement to let them know that we appreciate their service and pray for their safe return home.

Click here if you can help man our station on Saturday!

cleanFall Clean Up
Saturday, November 11
In preparation for our community-wide Walk Through Bethlehem, we will hold our Fall Clean-Up tomorrow. We will gather at the narthex entrance at 8:30 AM and plan on finishing by noon. There will be projects for all ages. We will be doing some pruning, spreading of pine straw, and cleaning of beds. In addition, we will be sealing the decking around the mods. Most tools will be provided, but what we need most is YOU and your time. If you can't stay the whole time, come when you can and leave when you must. Contact Wayne Moore or Jon Gutekunst if you have any questions ([email protected] or [email protected]).

adventAdvent Decorating
Christmas helpers are needed to decorate the sanctuary, narthex, and entrance to the church. The first Sunday in Advent is December 3; decorating needs to be completed before Walk Through Bethlehem begins on December 1. There are two opportunities to join the festivities: 9:30 AM on Monday, November 27, in the sanctuary and 10:30 AM on Thursday, November 30 to unload and place the poinsettias in the sanctuary. Any questions, please contact Sandie Buda at [email protected]. Your help is greatly appreciated!

10,000 COOKIES!
Walk Through Bethlehem has over 3,000 visitors each year. Part of our hospitality is to share cookies and a hot drink with our guests. Please consider a donation of cookies (Christmas cookies are the best!) or a monetary donation for hot drinks. Drop off your cookies in the kitchen or at the desk in the narthex beginning this Sunday. Checks can be dropped in the offering plate with "WTB Refreshments" on the memo line. Questions? [email protected].

Giving Tree
This year Mission and Outreach is doing a new thing -- we're going to have two Christmas trees set out that have "ornaments" for you to take home. They'll highlight three missions of the church to which you and your family can give gifts: Christmas Angel, Back Pack Buddies, and the PC USA Giving Catalog. You'll pick an ornament that will have instructions on how to help; we will "de-decorate" our trees all the way up to Christmas Eve.  Keep an eye out for more information to come!

What are the different kids of diabetes?

Type 1 diabetes occurs when the immune system destroys cells in the pancreas that produce insulin. When there is no insulin available to help move glucose into cells in the body, glucose builds up in the blood and cells starve. Only 5% of people with diabetes have Type 1. It usually starts before 20 years of age, but can happen at any age.

Type 2 diabetes occurs when cells don't use insulin as well as they need to. About 27 million people in the U.S. have Type 2 diabetes. It may be caused by genes, extra weight, too much glucose or not enough insulin from the liver, or problems with communication among cells. Type 2 diabetes used to be a disease that only affected adults, but it is now being seen frequently in children as a result of the childhood obesity epidemic.

Gestational diabetes occurs in about 6% of pregnant women. Blood glucose levels typically return to normal after delivery, but women who have gestational diabetes have a 50% chance of developing diabetes later in life.

KIDS HELPING KIDS: We have two mission partners here at WFPC that our kids can help support in very real ways. For the month of November, we are asking that our kids help collect size 5 and 6 diapers for Tri-Area Ministries and healthy, non-perishable snacks to supplement our BackPack Buddies program. There will be bins labeled for each mission in Holywood, so our kids can drop off items any time they head to the Red Mod.

SPECIAL CHRISTMAS EVE FAMILY SERVICE:  WFPC Children's Ministry invites you and your child to join us in a beautiful new tradition...a Christmas Eve pageant! ALL children have a role in the pageant, no rehearsal required! All families are encouraged to join us in the CLC on Sunday, December 24, at 9:00 AM as the children of the church present the story of the birth of Jesus Christ.

You will have the opportunity right after Thanksgiving to sign your child up for one of the following roles:

Animal - We will have animal masks for children to wear if they choose to be an animal! And animal costumes from home are welcomed!

Angel - Angels wear tinsel halos, which are provided. Wear white leggings or tights.

Shepherd - Shepherds provide their own bathrobes; headpieces are provided. Please have the children wear Tevas or summer sandals.
