" And whoever welcomes a little child like this in my name welcomes me." Matthew 18:5

Have you been down the nursery hall during worship lately? It is unusually quiet as we have not had as many infants and toddlers to cuddle as in past years.

Were you at the Promotion Sunday event where children were promoted to the next discipleship/Sunday school class? I noticed that only one child was in the 4-year-old class.

Being a mother, I recalled how hard those early years were with young children to feed, dress and round up for church, let alone find time to sojourn with other young parents trying to follow God's path. Now I am a grandmother to two young girls, so I noticed the dwindling numbers of the under-4 age group in our church. And as an Elder for Membership, Evangelism and Growth, I pondered how I could help encourage families of young children to participate in worship and ministries at WFPC.

So I reached out to my fellow elder, Marla Seymour; to our Director of Children, Family and Youth Ministries, Katherine Piper; and to a mom of young children, my daughter and nursery care giver, Allie Wilmoth to put our heads together. God had already been at work as Katherine and Allie both reported that they had been considering these same needs at WFPC. So we made a plan to pray, discuss and put into action some opportunities to appeal to young families.

Will you pray for us and WFPC to be an open door for anyone seeking a church family? Will you invite a family to worship with you? And let any of us know if you have a calling to assist us in this ministry that would encourage spiritual growth and support for moms and dads of infants and toddlers.

Lord, help us welcome your little children in Your sweet name. Amen

Sandy Christos
Elder for Membership, Evangelism and Growth (MEG)

servingServing the Hungry
Our WOW (Women of the Word) Group and our Iron Sharpens Iron Men's Bible Study Groups recently traveled to downtown Raleigh on a beautiful fall afternoon to share the love of Christ and serve a hot meal to those in need. This is not a mission project of WFPC as a whole, but a group of devoted women and men who step out of their comfort zones to put their hands and feet to serving others. Soup kitchens are not open on Sundays, so folks are in need of a Sunday meal. We have been part of a large number of churches for the past eight years which provide meals each and every Sunday afternoon. We also collect clothing for our guests to choose from, and a sewing group at church has provided us with beautiful blankets to hand out. We assemble and disburse "Blessing Bags" containing food for the next day and hygiene products for each guest to take with them. A devotion and grace are shared. As you can see, Jesus was right there with us serving!
lunchWomen's Ministry Holiday Luncheon
A Season for Gratitude!  Join us for the annual ladies' holiday luncheon on Saturday, November 4, 12:30-2:30 PM in the CLC. Before the holiday rush takes over, we will celebrate and prepare our hearts for the upcoming season. This year, we will be celebrating our gratitude for the multitude of God's blessings that we are fortunate to experience each and every day. And of course, we will enjoy our awesome potluck!  Please invite a friend and click here to RSVP.  It's going to be a great afternoon; you don't want to miss it!  For more info and questions:  Leslie Olmo, leslieolmo@yahoo.com.

Dinner and Auction
Friday, October 20, 5:00 to 9:00 PM
WFPC Christian Life Center

Tickets are $20/person or two for $35. This evening will be filled with various opportunities to contribute to the fundraiser event and provide clients with fresh food! Bring your friends and share a table for eight. Don't forget your checkbook!

Tri-Area Ministry Food Pantry receives food from the Emergency Food Assistance Program once each month. They also purchase food from the state-run Food Bank of Central and Eastern NC using monetary donations from individuals and community organizations. And yet, the shelves are often sparse, and they worry about how they will be able to serve their clients.

For tickets or if you'd like to help with decorations, contact Sandie Buda at sandiebuda@nc.rr.com.
pastorsOctober is Pastor Appreciation Month
Everyone likes to be appreciated, and what a nice way to show our love: by giving our fine pastors a card or note to show them how much we appreciate them. (If you'd like to include a gift, a small gift card to your favorite restaurant is helpful for folks with lots of evening meetings!) Boxes are located in the CLC and by the work room to drop in a note of thanks to our wonderful pastors.
dressesLittle Dresses for Africa
This was the third summer members of the Morning Glory Circle and others at WFPC have joined together in making dresses for the Little Dresses for Africa project. This volunteer organization ships dresses for young girls all over the world, not just Africa anymore! The original design of the dresses was made from a pillowcase, but the sewing friends at WFPC have become very creative with their designs. This last week, thirty five beautiful dresses were shipped to the headquarters with prayers of blessings for the girls.

All Saints Day Celebration
October 30 at 7 PM
All Saints' Day is a celebration that dates back to 835 CE! It is a worship tradition of naming the loss and joy of life eternal for loved ones whom we have lost in the past. Come out and join us for a special worship service focused on giving thanks for the lives of loved ones who have gone on to be with God, but also the ongoing work we do together as people of God. This day and worship is many things: a reminder we are part of the continuing communion of saints...a time to claim our kinship with those who have gone before us...and a time for the church to be faithful in life and service for all who have be witnesses to God's love in this world. Come worship with us! Childcare will be provided. Contact John Fawcett at johnfawcett@wakeforestpres.org.
meetingCongregational Meeting
There will be a Congregational Meeting at the end of the 11:15 worship service on Sunday, October 29. The purpose of the meeting is to adjust the terms of call for our pastors.
cfChick Flicks October
Please join us at Chick Flicks for fellowship, fun, and a great movie each month. This month, we will meet on October 13, the second Friday instead of the third, to let folks attend the Tri-Area Dinner on October 20. We'll watch "St. Vincent." We will gather between 6:30 and 7:00 and start the movie around 7:15 at the home of Diane Terrell. Please bring an appetizer and beverage of your choice. RSVP to Trish Floyd (pjfloyd90@gmail.com) or Diane Terrell (dianegterrell@gmail.com).
wtbWalk Through Bethlehem
Calling for Cast and Crew Members!
The Walk Through Bethlehem leadership team has been busy setting the stage for this year's program. The dates are December 1, 2 and 3; 6-9 pm on Friday and 5-8 pm on Saturday and Sunday. Sign-ups have begun, and excitement is building. We are looking forward to another great year and are praying for good weather. We are doing a few things differently this year that we wanted to let you know about. Sign-ups will continue on SignUp Genius, but we also have a brick and mortar presence on the bulletin board across from the youth room on the second floor of the CLC. The print and online sign-ups are synced frequently, so you can sign up either place. As always, contact Kathy Drake with questions about volunteering at 919-570-1100 or kathryn@ksdrakelaw.com.

There will be a rehearsal on November 29 at 7 pm in the CLC, but you will also be able to select a costume at various designated times in Room B103 in the CLC during the two weeks preceding the program. Hopefully, this will alleviate some of the chaos on opening night.

We have moved the start time on Saturday to 5:00 pm to accommodate families and, hopefully, get us out earlier on Saturday; this will require our Saturday volunteers to be at the church by 4:00. We also want to see if we can find a man to play the Angel 1 part and have divided that part into two shifts to make it a little less burdensome. We added back the guide from the manger to the cross last year, which got so much great feedback that we are keeping that in this year, and are looking for a special person to play that role.

Thank you so much for your support of this wonderful program year after year. We look forward to another wonderful year!

You can help by writing a check to WFPC with "Brown Bag and Beyond" on the memo line.

Wake Forest Presbyterian Church raised $1,530 for the CROP Walk on September 24. So far, this year's Wake Forest CROP Walk has netted a total of $7,604, of which 25 % will go to Tri-Area Ministries and the remainder to Church World Service programs for hunger, poverty, and disaster relief.  Thank you for walking. Thank you for giving. You helped change the world!

THE TURQUOISE TABLE PROJECT: Kristen Schell knew that God wanted to use her in a big way but she wasn't sure exactly how. She ordered a picnic table to have at her house for a BBQ. As soon as the table came, it hit her! It would serve its purpose for the party, but after that she painted it turquoise and put it in her front yard. Before she knew it, that table was a meeting place for the neighborhood. Neighbors that had never talked before were sharing laughs and stories together and building relationships. Now, people all over America are putting turquoise tables in their front yards! The youth are in the process of painting three tables, one of which we will be sharing with our friends at Davie Street Presbyterian. We encourage you to gather at the tables at WFPC to chat with someone you know, chat with someone you might have seen but have never talked to, or just to rest! Invite someone to join you for a conversation at the table! And if you enjoy your time there so much that you end up getting your own front yard table, be sure to let us know! We would love to hear your stories!
