Learn to swim like a Mermaid in Brooklyn this spring break!


New York, April 6-10, 2015

Ariel, in "The Little Mermaid," dreams of having legs and walking on land, but for those who have the opposite dream - that of becoming a mermaid,- there's Mermaid Swim School coming to New York this Spring Break!

Run by a nonprofit corporation called World of Swimming, a 5-days Mermaid School offers a "Little Mermaid" swim class for kids age 8-12 (beginning on Monday,  April 6 from 5-6pm a "Mermaid Dreams" swim class for adults and teens (also beginning Monday, from 6-7 p.m.); and a "Mermaid Makeover," for which a professional photographer will stage a photo shoot in and near the water.

These programs happen at Saint Francis college aquatic center, 180 Remsen Street, Brooklyn and registration for classes (which includes a tail, a matching top, a backpack, photos, and Real Mermaid certification") costs $290. According to the website, the Mermaid School swim classes combine swimming, gymnastics and fitness, focusing on: dolphin kicks; controlling body movement and breathing; swimming under water (on your stomach and back); free vertical dives; backward and forward somersaults; mermaid surfacing; and swimming underwater with music. 

The Head Mermaid will be a famous swimming model and National Estonian champion, presently USA coach Merle Liivand. 
Registrations are open until April 3 or when full.
