As Hurricane Florence is rapidly intensifying and expecting to strike a direct and dangerous blow anywhere from the Carolinas to the Mid-Atlantic region, possibly as a category 4 storm, and evacuees are already arriving in our area, pray for all, offer help and hospitality, and be aware of the avenues of response. I lift up the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR).

Through UMCOR, through this and other emergencies, 100% of gifts are directed to the response, with no overhead costs. Gifts can be directed through the church offering, marked in memo line  UMCOR - Hurricane Florence, or through online giving at the UMCOR website: umcor.org .

On Sunday, in worship and as we gather for the picnic, we will gather in healing hope, praying for those whose hearts are torn
by life's disasters, warfare, and circumstance; and responding in the name of the author of Resurrection, God the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

Don

[The picnic remains scheduled for McFee Park immediately following our 11 a.m. contemporary service. If anything should change, notice will be given through our several communication avenues.]

CCD Updates

CCD is  Sunday, December 2, 1:00-3:00 p.m.
Organizational meeting on Sunday, September 23rd
 Noon-1:30 p.m. Conference Room

Please join us in planning our 2018 Christmas Community Day event! Whether it is your first CCD or your eleventh, we  have a role for you. We  need volunteers to lead centers and to coordinate specific tasks.  Our first organizational meeting is Sunday, September 23, Noon-1:30 p.m. in the Conference Room.  A light lunch will be served. To make a lunch reservation, email  Laura Derr  at  L_derr@prospectman.com

Fundraising Volunteer Needed
CCD is funded annually by the Rita Hommel Endowment. Each year we also approach local grocery stores and retailers to ask for gift cards and in-kind donations for grocery and necessities bags. We need a volunteer to coordinate this activity. Tasks include letter writing, on-line corporate solicitations, and visits to local retailers. If you can help in any of these tasks, please contact Laura Derr at L_derr@prospectman.com.

CCD Book Donations Needed
The boxes are out on Main Street for book donations for the CCD Book Center. You can donate childrens' books, miscellaneous books to be traded in at McKay's Book Store, or McKay's trade-in receipts. If possible, we ask that you trade in books at McKay's and bring receipts to the book boxes. But if that is not possible, please bring us your used books and we will trade them in for childrens' books. In 2017 we gave away 2200 childrens' books; we hope to give away even more in 2018! Thanks for your support!

CCD Coat Donations Needed
The CCD coat collection box is out on Main Street for donations of gently used coats in all sizes. In 2017 we gave away 188 coats; we hope to giveaway even more in 2018! Thanks for your support!

trunk or treat
It's almost that time of year where we get to open our hearts and cars to the people in our community through Trunk or Treat. Last year we almost couldn't pull the event together because of the lack of trunk sign ups. In an effort to avoid that crisis we are asking that you sign up ASAP to let us know how many trunks we can expect. Please sign up at the Information Desk by emailing Paige.

Did You Know ....  that our Giving Garden is still giving (producing).

This past week, Monarch Butterfly caterpillars started their last stage of the butterfly's life cycle, that being enveloping
themselves in a chrysalis for their final transformation into a flying Monarch. Take a look under the eave above the front door of the garden shed (God's Place Annex) to observe about 20 chrysalises. The transformation takes about 10 days, and the first Monarch emerged last Sunday morning. This final Knoxville generation will soon be flying to Mexico. Be sure to take a look -- maybe you'll witness this year's Pollinator Garden production!!

P.S. The bean plants in the garden belong to Trinity Learning Center children -- more production!

Come Feast on "Feasts of the Bible"
The Thursday Morning Women's Bible Study Group begins a new nine-week study on Thursday at 10 a.m. in the Conference Room.

The study, "Feasts of the Bible," will be facilitated  by Mary Ellen Lokey, who grew up going to Synagogue on Saturday and church on Sunday.  Her unique Christian and Jewish background promises an interesting perspective of the Old Testament feasts and how they foreshadowed the coming of the New Covenant. Some of the feasts are familiar while others will offer new understanding of our Judeo-Christian heritage.

Come feast on "Feasts of the Bible." The group discussions are always stimulating and often inspires deeper research and shared group enlightenment.
Stop by and pick up a "Welcome to Your Home B ucket" for a new neighbor. They are available at the Information Desk.
