La Comunidad Intelectual
The Learning Community Program welcomed a new Learning Community this Fall. La Comunidad Intelectual has a great support system with faculty and staff from different programs and departments across campus including El Instituto and PRLACC.  Diana Rios, Associate Professor of Communications, is the Faculty Director of this community.  In August, the team welcomed it's first group of 13 first year students.
Kickoff event on October 23rd
The Office of First Year Programs & Learning Communities is kicking off a new program at UConn called YOUCreate.  This is an opportunity for UConn students to participate in program that values innovation and encourages students to uncover skills that they may not know that they have. UConn Fall Open House
UConn has offered two different Open House dates for prospective students and families to visit campus.  The first Open House was held on Sunday, September 14th and yielded nearly 1,700 students (4,400 including their guests).  We had a ton of great Learning Community student volunteers at the Learning Community Presentation, the tables at the Resource Fair, and EcoHouse students helped by providing bike tours!

The Open House events are a great opportunity for prospective students to learn more about the Learning Community Program and how it is possible to find a small close knit community within the larger University.  The last Fall Open House was held on Sunday, October 19th, we are looking forward to hearing the feedback from the families that visited campus!
