Winter is HERE!
It's hard to believe but it looks like we may actually have a White Christmas this season!
With freezing temperatures on the horizon here are few tips to keep your home warm through the winter!
- Know where your owner's cut-off valve is located and how to use it. Apply oil such as WD-40 to the cut-off valve before operating to prevent the valve from breaking. Most homes have at least two locations where water cut off valves could be located. The first valve is located adjacent to the water meter in a buried meter box (usually in the front near the street. The second valve is located where the main water line enters the house. (possible on the interior or exterior). If you are uncertain of the location of the cut off valve, please contact your builder and we will be glad to locate them for you.
- Locate and insulate pipes most susceptible to freezing, typically those near outer walls in crawl spaces, in the attic, outdoor kitchens, non-conditioned space (garages etc.)
- Wrap pipes with heat tape (UL approved)
- Seal any leaks that allow cold air inside where pipes are located
- Disconnect garden hoses
