House GOP Task Force Looking at Possible Medicaid Changes
With the rising cost of nursing home care, states and the federal government are being forced to look at current Medicaid benefits. A House Republican task force is weighing what types of Medicaid reforms could be possible in 2017, with the November election playing a major role in what can be done. Reauthorizing some Medicare extenders could provide opportunities for some additional reforms to Medicaid.
Meanwhile, in North Carolina, a bill submitted and sponsored by the Democrat party would expand the state Medicaid program to include an additional 500,000 North Carolinians. However, because key Republican legistlative leaders have said expanding the program is a non-starter, the chances could be slim that the bill will emerge from a House committee during this short session.
