Countdown until  Library Day at the Statehouse  on Tuesday, March 14

If you are coming, thank you for joining colleagues to help tell the story of libraries and protect $12.7 million in funding for internet connectivity and INSPIRE in the State Budget.  We will accept final registrations through 3/13, 10am.  Learn more  or  register.

If you are not able to attend at the Statehouse, consider taking these actions from your home, school or library:
  • Tweet and Retweet on Tuesday. Use #LibraryStatehouseDay.
  • Attend the "Third House" or "Meet Your Legislator" meetinginyour community. (Thanks to IaUW for posting.)
  • Watch the Senate online (likely between 1-2:30 on Tuesday; we will tweet when to tune in) and House (soon after the Senate) to see the reading of SCR14, a resolution honoring 125 years of Indiana Library Federation.
  • Thank your member of the House for supporting funds for internet connectivity and INSPIRE databases for libraries and schools.

We hope to post photos soon.

Students and teachers deserve effective school librarians! Share your support at ESSA meetings.
Indiana Department of Education, under new Superintendent of Public Instruction Dr. Jennifer McCormick, will hold input sessions about indiana's plan for implementation of the Every Student Succeeds Act (ESSA).

Will you help shape Indiana's ESSA plan at a meeting? Sessions will be held March 16 through April 24 throughout the state. Visit IDOE to learn more and register

Indiana Library Federation hosted multiple calls and a training session last September. Note that these input sessions are different from those held last fall; participants will be grouped at tables to discuss different elements of ESSA (i.e. accountability, student supports, etc.). Contact us or Michelle Houser, VP of the AISLE Board, if you are willing to attend a session or join a technical work group at DOE.
Start your engines: Bills are moving quickly in the Indiana General Assembly
Thanks to our Legislative Advocates at Bose Public Affairs, we will continue to provide you:
  • Legislative Update from Bose - includes an overview of the prior week of the session, including updates of bills that were heard or died by the crossover deadline. Review this update for important updates at this halfway point in the session! (archived Bose Reports at bottom of linked page)

  • Bill Tracking List - Note that this is a  list of bills that may relate to our ILF Policy Priorities and for bills that are still alive. We will provide a separate action alert with key facts or talking points when appropriate.
