Legislative Update on Potential Urban Indian Health Program Funding

Today the House Appropriations Subcommittee on Interior, Environment, and Related Agencies released the Full Committee Report for their FY2019 Appropriations bill, which includes next year’s recommended funding levels for the Indian Health Service and Urban Indian Health. SIHB is pleased to report that the Subcommittee has recommended $5.9 billion for the Indian Health Service in FY2019 ($370 million above the fiscal year 2018 level) including $60,000,000 for Urban Indian Health Programs, which is $10,685,000 more than FY2018 levels and $13,578,000 over the President’s FY2019 request.

This committee report will go to a full committee vote hopefully within the next week, and subsequently to a floor vote in the House of Representatives. SIHB would like to thank Chairman Calvert, Vice Chair Stewart, Ranking Member McCollum, and Subcommittee Members Tom Cole, Derek Kilmer, Mike Simpson, David Joyce, Mark Amodei, Evan Jenkins, Chellie Pingree, and Marcy Kaptur for their leadership and commitment to the health of our American Indian and Alaska Native community.
