St. Odilia Parish Lenten Mission 2017

The Life and Thought of Pope Francis

Presenter: Fr. Michael Joncas
  • Mon., Mar. 13, 7:00-9:00 p.m. - Pope Francis: the man, the priest and the teacher
  • Tues., Mar. 14, 7:00-9:00 p.m. - The Joy of the Gospel
  • Wed., Mar. 15, 6:30-8:30 p.m. - The Joy of Love
Gather for three evenings of inspiration and insight, as Fr. Joncas explores with us the life and thought of Pope Francis. You'll have the opportunity to listen, ask your questions, pray and sing.
  • On Monday evening, he'll share his insights about Pope Francis himself - how Jorge Mario Bergoglio came to be the man and the pope that he is today, and how he is teaching and guiding the Church.
  • On Tuesday, Fr. Joncas will focus on "The Joy of the Gospel" (Evangelii Gaudium), Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation to all of us in the Church about the proclamation of the Gospel in today's world.
  • On Wednesday, Fr. Joncas will turn to "The Joy of Love" (Amoris Laetitia), Pope Francis' apostolic exhortation on love in the family. Learn how our Pope and these two major teachings can both inform our minds and deepen the love of God in our hearts.
About our presenter: Fr. Joncas, a priest of the Archdiocese of St. Paul and Minneapolis, is a world-renowned presenter, teacher, theologian, author and composer ("On Eagle's Wings"). He has been a parish priest, a director of education at the Newman Center, and, for many years, a professor of theology at the University of St. Thomas, where he now serves as the university's artist-in-residence and fellow, doing research, writing, composing and lecturing, both at St. Thomas and all over the world. He also serves numerous parishes as a weekend presider. He holds a doctorate in sacred theology from San Anselmo, a papal institute in Rome, as well as honorary degrees and awards too numerous to mention. He is the author of four books (with three more in the works), numerous articles, and over 25 collections of liturgical music. But he's more than just a scholar; he is a beloved teacher and hugely in demand as a speaker and retreat leader. Don't miss this rare opportunity to see him right here at St. Odilia.

The music: We will have music from our much-loved St. Odilia Mission Band to open each evening's session, and we'll hear Fr. Joncas' voice, too.

Social time: The last half-hour (45 minutes on Wednesday) of each evening will be a social gathering and refreshments in our Courtyard, with Fr. Joncas present for conversations.

Note the time change on Wednesday: We're starting and ending earlier that evening, to match the schedule of our regular Wednesday Faith Formation programs, so that parents can attend the Mission while their children are in class.

For more information or to volunteer, contact Lucy Arimond, Director of Adult Formation and Evangelization, [email protected], 651-415-3331.

This renewal or activation of the graces of baptism and confirmation is available to everyone. I Cor 12:7-11: "To each is given the manifestation of the Spirit for the common good...." Come join us! Life in the Spirit seminars have been offered thousands of times in thousands of Catholic churches throughout the world. A number of St. Odilia parishioners have attended these seminars both as participants and presenters, here and elsewhere.

3) FOR THE HEALING OF OUR NATION:
Dates: Tuesdays, Mar. 7, Mar. 21, Mar. 28, Apr. 4
Time: 6:00-7:00 p.m.
Place: Chapel
NO registration, no fee - just attend when you are able.
Online option: for praying at home if you cannot attend.

How can we become the healers needed where we live? Our Social Justice Council, pondering how best to move forward, proposed that we commit some time in prayer, together, for wisdom and healing and unity. No politics, no arguments - just some time in the presence of God and each other. Find trust in God in a time when we have drifted from him and are lost amid the fractures of our world. Gather in our Chapel for parishioner-led scriptural prayer, words of wisdom from Pope Francis, reflective quiet, and sharing and prayer together. Includes the opportunity to speak your prayer intentions, if you wish.

Online option: the prayer outline for each day will also be posted that day on the parish website, on the Adult Formation webpage.
More info or to volunteer: Lucy Arimond, Director of Adult Formation and Evangelization, [email protected] or 651-415-3331.
