March 26 will mark 1 year since The Gatehouse's grand opening. Within a week of that celebration, our first families began their journey through the Independent Life Program. As of today, 38 families with 59 children are participating in this place and program for permanent change.  We are delivering what we promised.

"Thank you for bringing me to a safe place to live. I like riding my bike and not being scared." (Gatehouse child, 12)

When our women first enter their fully-furnished apartments, decorated with special touches just for them by volunteer God Squad members, they begin to remember they have value. When they develop their budget and are guided by appointment through the General Store and Keeps Boutique for food and clothes, they remember they have dignity. And when they begin to work and attend school, they gain confidence and realize that independence is possible.

Another 58 families will be admitted into the Program during the next year, to reach full capacity for 96 families -- that's 96 women and approximately 200 children. More than 800 volunteers have completed the 1-hour volunteer training, and 7,000+ hours of volunteer time have been logged just since September.

You can see that with the enormous scale of services, you are needed. Your talents and time as a volunteer, your in-kind services and your financial support are all crucial so the needed refuge, resources and relationships are offered to families who have the attitude and ability to heal and become permanently self-supportive.

If you haven't visited the completed community, we hope to see you at the  March 8 Open House  when we will share progress from this past year and mark the path going forward that will change generations.

Onward!
