Hopeful but Cautious!

Dear Friends,

We started Persian New year on a very nice note. We received more donations compared to previous years. Although some of our Nowruz mailers were sent late by our printer, we are still receiving donations and sponsorship requests. Thank you all for participating in the  Nowruz campaign which continues for another two weeks and there is still time to join the  Kiarostami scholarship drive.

We also had lots of programs around the country and our volunteers from east to west participated in many events, helping us to raise fund and awareness for children in need. We sincerely thank all of them and please see a short report our wonderful team below.

At the same time, I am a little concerned. The news that we received is the United States is planning to drastically reduce its assistance to international organizations by 40%. Although Child Foundation has not been recipients of any governmental fund but this will definitely have a domino effect on the work of NGO's such as ours since it will endanger millions of lives and consequently creating a heavier workload.

President Trump is working on a new executive order which establishes a committee to enacting "at least a 40 percent overall decrease" in U.S. funding to international groups.

We are monitoring the situation, hoping for the best but at the same time planning for the worst. Meanwhile, I like to invite you to donate generously to our general fund that helps emergency cases. Also please visit our children's waiting list to sponsor a child to go to school and have a better life.

Abbas Kiarostami Scholarship

Abbas Kiarostami was perhaps the most famous Iranian filmmaker whose artistic work started on the subject of children

In honor of Abbas Kiarostami's work, Child Foundation had created Kiarostami's Educational Scholarship in collaboration with his family. We had started with 100 children in need who will receive this scholarship and will continue to increase this number as more donors participate.

To be part of this educational movement, please choose any child in our sponsorship page and let us know an amount for your monthly contribution. We make sure he/she receives your monthly donation, and in return, you receive a biannual report on how your contribution changes your sponsored child's life.

We hope that this scholarship program inspires students to follow in Abbas Kiarostami's footsteps.

Child Foundation's Nowruz Activities

Child Foundation had a wonderful 16th Nowruz Bazar in Los Angeles where hundreds gather to do their Nowruz shopping. Among participants was Mr. Robert Blumenfield, Los Angeles third district Councilmember who presented Child Foundation and its volunteers with a special certificate of appreciation and Los Angels official Nowruz proclamation.

Companies such as Sadaf, Akbar-Mashdi's famous ice-cream, and others provided us with some of their products to sell to benefit Child Foundation. Some of the participants also signed up to join the team of our sponsors and started their support right on spot.

Our volunteers in Chicago led by Farideh had a very good fundraising gathering and collected over $22,000 donation; Gelareh in Ontario, Canada arranged a fundraising party and collected hundreds of dollars to help children.

In San Diego, we had an informational table and Dr. Raoofi had a presentation which led to fifteen new sponsorship; our Portland office sold Nowruz items in Charshanbeh-soori event, also had a presentation and a table in Nowruz festival held by the students at PSU. Our volunteer, Akbar and his family set up an informational table in Nowruz event in Michigan, Behnaz in Pullman, WA had a presentation in Nowruz event in Washington University.

Thanks to all our volunteers who made this March, the most successful March that Child Foundation has ever had.

Help us to Stand on our Feet

As we reported in our January 27 newsletter, Child Foundation is helping three young boys in Afghanistan who had lost their legs. We are still following up with them.

Hamidollah and Allim, were moving their cattle to a field when they accidentally walked into mine fields. Another young boy, Khal-Mohammad who used to work as a package courier with his wheelbarrow was hired to carry a package to a bank. He was unaware that there was a small bomb inside the package which exploded! All three had lost one leg to these incidents.

With help of Soraya, our kind volunteer in Italy, We are sending two of these children to Italy for medical treatment. They will go through an extensive period of therapy before they receive their prosthetic legs. Their visa process took much longer that what we expected. On their way back, we had to fly them from Kabul to Mazar-e-Sharif since the roads were taken over by Taliban and were not safe.

We invite you to participate in helping these children by donating to our medical fund here.
Welcome New Sponsors, you are ALL amazing!

During last week, the following individuals have joined thousands of our sponsors who provide monthly assistance to children.

We sincerely welcome them and at the same time warn them to prepare for many years of enjoying the wonderful feelings of helping a child achieve his/her dreams through education.

Hi, I'm Emad

I am 12-years-old talented and hardworking student in the 7 th grade with an excellent GPA.

We live in the city of Fonooj, in province of Sistan Baluchestan. Like others, like to play soccer and ride my old bicycle.  My father passed away because of blood cancer several months ago.

I have 4 siblings and my sister is student too. We all live in a very old room and are deprived of equipment like refrigerator, cooler, carpet, heater, stove, etc.  I love school and I do my best but I need your help.

Gift for our Children
Our sponsor Zahra who lives in Texas sent new clothes and shoes for Nowruz to her sponsored child, Zeinab in Ardebil and made her day.

Our other sponsor, Fred from Maryland, ordered a laptop for her sponsored girl, Maryam who is a university student with a very good GPA.

Maryam's father is sick with heart problem and can not work and if it wasn't because of Fred's generosity, they could never afford a computer for Maryam. Thank you!
Help  Syrian Refugees
The Syrian civil war has displaced millions of defenseless people into rough mountains and parched desert areas all over neighboring counties, as well as Europe, while in search of basic safety and simple shelter. The harrowing photographs of innocent children and frail men and women at their wit's end are heart-wrenching. We are asking you to help.

If the image of the little Syrian child washed ashore, innocent of the slightest wrong doing but victim to the senseless violence and the grueling flight of the refugee, made a mark on your conscience, then stand with us to help more like him from becoming casualties of war.

Child Foundation is helping Syrian refugees who are in Greek camps now. We need your help to continue these our services to children in need.

We invite you to join the caring community of people who step up to the call of humanity and help save lives across the world. These are the innocent causalities of ugly conflict, and they need your generosity to survive. Our next step depends on
your generosity.
Tabriz School Project
A generous lady donated a large piece of land to be used for building a school for children in need in Tabriz.

Child Foundation has finished surveying the land and have blue prints ready.
