2016 Weininger Lecture & Reception
October 3, 6:00 - 8:00 pm @ Central

Join the "Dean of American library historians" Wayne Wiegand, author of Part of our Lives: A People's History of the American Public Library, and guest of honor for this year's  Weininger Lecture and Reception.

"Whether as a public space, a place for accessing information, or a home for reading material that helps patrons make sense of the world around them, the public library has a rich history of meaning for millions of Americans. From colonial times through the recent technological revolution, libraries have continuously adapted to better serve the needs of their communities."

Wiegand will share a short lecture featuring video clips and excerpts from his research on the American Public Library. BPLF Board Member Linda Schacht Gage will moderate. Reception to follow the presentation.  RSVP here to reserve a place. Admission is free.

The Weininger Lecture Series is supported by the Weininger family in memory of Harry Weininger and his loyalty to and love for the Berkeley Public Library.

Panelists demystify this community issue and share solutions that have worked in other cities with plenty of time for discussion. A reception follows the conversation.

Formed in 2015, the Berkeley Public Library's Homeless Task Force develops programs addressing the needs of library patrons experiencing homelessness.

Their current project, Community Outreach in the Library, or COIL, works to bring community organizations representing a wide range of services into the library to provide information and referrals, as well as direct services
