Have you met Sir Russell, the DHCLS reading hedgehog?

Houston County's number one advocate for the importance of reading for all ages is Sir Russell, the DHCLS reading hedgehog. Russell resides in the Children's Room of the Main Library and invites you to come down and visit him anytime. He mainly likes to read at night when the library is quiet so don't take offense if he's sleeping during the day.  He likes grubs, lots of them! Russell's annual care and feeding is generously sponsored by the Greater Dothan Veterinary Medical Association.

Dothan's High School Summer Reading

Dothan's High School Students voted on their required Summer Reading and the winner was a novel entitled, We Were Liars. "There's trouble in paradise at the opening of National Book Award finalist and Printz honoree E. Lockhart's shattering yet ultimately hopeful YA novel . . . and neither family nor reader will ever be the same." Library Journal

Copies have been flying off our shelves. The Friends of the Dothan Houston County Library generously provided 60 extra copies to meet the increased demand.

DHCLS Sponsorship Update
Eclectas Club of Dothan
DHCLS is always humbled by private individuals, businesses, and other organizations who believe in the mission of public libraries and provide us with their generous support throughout the year. These donations serve to supplement what we are annually allocated from the City, County and State in order to provide impactful library services and programs. One group that we would like to give a big library hug to this month is the Eclectas Club of Dothan. This group's efforts raised $2,312 in support of our 2016 Summer Learning Challenge. If you or your organization would like to support us in some way, please contact us at director@dhcls.org.

Tell us what to buy!

We're always looking for good suggestions from our community for titles that aren't yet in our collection. If you think there is something the library should own, by all means, fill out our webform and let us know what you'd like to see in the library. There is no guarantee it will be approved, but we will attempt to accommodate as many suggestions as possible from our patrons. Access the webform and instructions on submitting a title suggestion, HERE.
