DHCLS opposes liquor store application next door to Downtown Library.
Last month, DHCLS went before the City Commission along with the Downtown Dothan Redevelopment Authority (DDRA) to voice its opposition to an application which would put a liquor store right across the street on the corner of Burdeshaw and Oates Streets. As Library Director, Jason LeDuc, put it, "The optics of juxtaposing a liquor store and a public educational institution such as a library would be most unfortunate." The application was defeated. Bookmobile Update
New Tires/Old Awning
Since January 1st, the Bookmobile has been operating 3 days/week meandering its way down dusty backroads to bring library service to the underserved in remote areas of Houston County. This month it finally went into the shop to get its 6 old tires replaced in order to give it more stability and safety as it hauls that weighty collection of materials to its eager users.  However, it also experienced some pain this month as a powerful Wiregrass wind gust on the day of Hurricane Matthew ripped its awning right off the side while it was parked at the Taylor Town Hall. Life giveth and taketh away.
