New Weekend Hours at Port St. Joe

The Corinne Costin Gibson Memorial Public Library is pleased to announce that they are adding weekend hours. The library will soon be open on Saturdays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

The new hours will go into effect on April 4th:

Monday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Tuesday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Thursday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Friday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Saturday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.

STEM @ Your Library: Robotics Series

Engineer Jason Scott will present a series of classes on 3D printing, Arduino microprocessors, robotics, sensors, and artificial intelligence at the Bay County Public Library.

April 2 from 9 a.m. to 12 noon
Introduction to 3D printing and then we'll use Arduino to build a 3D printed robot that you can take home.

April 4 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Brief discussion of 3D printing followed by a hands-on workshop.

April 11 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Brief discussion of Arduino followed by a hands-on workshop.

April 18 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Brief discussion of robotic sensors followed by a hands-on workshop.

April 25 from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
Brief discussion of artificial intelligence followed by a hands-on workshop.

Children's Author Kwame Alexander

Meet Kwame Alexander on April 28 at 6 p.m. at the Bay County Public Library. Reception begins at 5 p.m. and will feature local talent George Allen singing favorites from the 60s, 70s, and today.

Kwame is a New York Times bestselling children's author, poet, educator, and winner of the 2015 Newbery Award for The Crossover. His appearance is part of the BooksAlive Festival Across Panama City (www.booksalive.net).

Learn to identify computer components and the common elements of a Windows-based operating system, navigate software, and save/store files. Prerequisite: None.

Learn the basic features of the Mozilla Firefox web browser, learn the difference between a search box and URL box, and learn to evaluate a website's content. Prerequisite: Computer Basics Part 1 or equivalent experience.

Memory and Aging with Anna Taylor


As we age, some changes in memory are normal. It is important for older adults to be able to distinguish these normal changes in memory from the kinds of memory loss that result from disease or other medical issues. Based on the research of cognitive psychologists, this program will discuss how different types of memory are affected as we age, warning signs that memory changes may be abnormal, and tips for improving your memory.
Friday ColorFest for Adults

Adults, join us at the Bay County Public Library the first Friday of each month from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. and rediscover the joy and relaxation found in coloring.

These are not your kids' coloring books! Intricate designs provide a challenge.

We'll supply coloring sheets, pens, colored pencils, and soothing music. You can bring your own supplies (if you want) and snacks!

The Train to Crystal City: FDR's Secret Prisoner Exchange Program and America's Only Family Internment Camp During World War II by Jan Jarboe Russell

Description: During World War II, trains delivered thousands of civilians from the United States and Latin America to Crystal City, Texas. The trains carried Japanese, German, and Italian immigrants and their American-born children. The only family internment camp during the war, Crystal City was the center of a government prisoner exchange program called "quiet passage" whereby hundreds of prisoners were exchanged for other more ostensibly important Americans -- diplomats, businessmen, soldiers, and missionaries -- behind enemy lines in Japan and Germany.
